Positive Grid Spark 2 BK

I needed a small amp that I can easily carry on my bicycle for jazz combo gigs in small venues. Getting a great jazz sound is quite important to me, and since the other small amps I tried were "just OK" I decided to take a chance on the Spark 2 before its official release.

The setup and learning curve were quick, and I was able to dial in a very convincing Deluxe Reverb tone easily. The next night I took it to rehearsal with 16 piece Latin jazz orchestra with drums and percussion. This group is LOUD, and the Spark 2 held its own - I was even asked to turn it down! Since then I've had lots of compliments from other musicians. The FRFR sounds great when streaming music with Bluetooth, so now I find I'm using the Spark 2 for practice more than my main amp.

I've only just scratched the surface of features and tones, and I'm really happy with it. My only criticism is a small one: there is no spring reverb, and the alternatives are good but not great.

Bought the positive grid spark 2 along with the spark control x footswitch. I am really pleased with this amp it has great tones and along with the spark app is so easy to use and so versatile. I used to spend forever trying to set up my tones on previous amps to sound like particular artists and was never happy with the results. With this amp it is so easy to download the sounds you are looking for from the tone cloud. This saves me so much time and allows me to get on with playing and learning the guitar. I love the fact that you can bluetooth backing tracks from the app on your phone so easily through the amp to practice with.
A great little amp providing so many great tones and so versatile. The perfect amp for me as I only play guitar at home and do not gig. Although the volume can be cranked up very loud on this amp (50W) so it may well be fine for gigging as well.

The Positive Grid Spark 2 is the first amp I’ve ever owned, and while its range of features felt a bit overwhelming at first, it didn’t take long to get the hang of it. Both the amp and the Spark App are thoughtfully designed and work flawlessly together, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.

I bought it as a practice amp, and in that role, it not only delivers but surpasses expectations. One feature I especially love is the Bluetooth connectivity—I can connect my tablet and have Yousician’s backing tracks and instructions play right through the amp. It’s a game-changer for focused practice sessions.

The sound quality is excellent, even though I don’t have other amps to compare it to. It’s also beautifully designed, with a premium look and feel that fits nicely into my interior. I never feel the need to hide it away when I’m not practicing.

I’ve used it with both electric and acoustic guitars, and while it takes a little tweaking to dial in the perfect tone, the app makes this super easy. The built-in tones are versatile, and the ability to fine-tune everything adds a lot of value.

I haven’t explored the AI features yet, but they look like an exciting tool to dive into as I grow past the beginner stage. Overall, the Spark 2 is a fantastic choice for any guitarist looking for a smart, stylish, and reliable practice amp.

The build quality is awesome and the app is quite clever and functional, the amp sims are great and you can dial in almost anything you want. AI features are fun but not reliable, for serious playing you can customize stuff in advance. The new speakers and looper were a great addition to an already awesome amp.
For the bad stuff:
-It needs to go through the connection screen every time you use the app, I wish the app was more like Garmin Connect where it "hunts" for the connection if your bluetooth is on, so you don't waste time connecting every time you use it. I have the wireless foot switch (Control X) for it and it has the same issue, every time you use it it needs to reconnect, and you need to press the button on the back of the amp to do it.
- This one is especially frustrating if you have the above-mentioned pedal, the amp is slow to change patches. It takes about half a second or more once you press the switch and it's very noticeable if you try and do it mid song.

It’s a very good device, specially considering the price point, but I think you should compare it to the competition.
I think the killer features are:
1. Removable battery
2. Acceptable audio quality at low and high volumes
3. Stable app, the looper, tuner and recording functionaries are actually nice
4. Doubles as a speaker, you can play backing tracks through it, actually great
5. Great price point
6. Good build quality

Weaknesses:
1. Variety of pedals and effects is a cons for me, it’s not a complete and not expandable, you should not try to chase a tone with this, but the UX pushes you to do so to get a good sound. If it’s a practice amp, why the variety, if it’s meant to be able to replicate tones, give me a way to expand.
2. No built in wireless receiver (compared to yamaha thr), would have been so nice if they had it, I would be happy to pay a bit more to have that
3. Audio quality for anything other than playing guitar is not that good, also it’s not an FRFR, so you cannot model cabs or use it as an FRFR later on (I think it would have been an instant buy for me if it was an FRFR)
