Z.Vex Box of Rock Vexter

Distortion PedalThe BOX of Rock is ZVEX's first distortion pedal. It has been specially designed to simulate the "British setting" sound of a classic Marshall JTM 45 non-master-volume amplifier.

Of course you can operate the pedal with any other amplifier as well, but to hear the sound Zachary Vex had in mind when he developed this pedal, you should try it with a Marshall amplifier at least once. The degree of distortion up to the clean sound, can be controlled very easily with the volume knob on the guitar.

The boost channel can be either operated alone or in conjunction with the "distortron engine". The boost channel is switched after the "distortron engine" to put extra power in to the amp again if both channels are turned on, increasing the volume for a better solo play.

  • Simulates the "British setting" of an old Marshall amp
  • Power supply optional available (409939)

Petite Review of the Box Of Rock Vexter

Comas, 25.05.2011
Getting the sound of the mythical Marshall Plexi, which guitarist Rock has never had the urge or dream to use this kind of amp?
There are, of course, many approaches to approach THE (Angus Young, Hendrix, Clapton, Jimmy Page and many others).
Buying this pedal is an EXCELLENT way to HAVE this sound (note that I did not use the word try ..)

At first, this pedal is reassuring, it is strong, it is zvex, no reliability concern in sight, it is delivered with a cloth that brings a certain charm to the "package" (one has the impression of To have a collector object and relatively rare

This pedal has 2 features:

- The first, and certainly the one that attracts the most, is the Overdrive / Disto function, which imitates in a remarkable and bluffing way a JTM 45 pushed to block.
The settings are intuitive and the pedal reacts like an amp, the sound is bold, dynamic, I would say organic (we are convinced to have kt88 in the small case;))
I do not know what to say more, if only if you like the sound of the artists I quoted, then this pedal is made for you

- The second I had a little underestimated: the function Boost, well believe me my ancestors, it tears all this function !! I often used different boost, but they color too much sound (shouting or darkening), the Box of rock, it is very respectful signal and will do wonders in a lamp amp at the edge of the crunch

In short, you will understand, this pedal is superbly designed. It is true that the price may seem high, but believe me, it is the kind of pedal that we keep a long time and I do not regret absolutely my choice

I strongly advise you

Zauberkiste

Meister Eda, 20.01.2012
I'll make it short:
The sound from this box is incredibly lively.

Now I do it a bit longer:
What comes out of the tread has character, is dynamic and can be intensively influenced while playing. In particular - and this is probably the interesting point in the distortion - the degree of distortion is very similar to the loudness of both the guitarspot and the side-stop, so there is no boredom, because the same sound always sounds new again and again.
Tone and gain controls have a wide range, which I did not have the effect of the "sweet spot": I have not yet been bored to play around with them, because - as with other devices - But in the end again and again on the same setting lands.
Only the fact that this device is supposed to imitate a Marshall JTM 45 - which I do not dare to judge - leads to the fact that the sound with all the described diversity always always has a special character, which I like by the way (British, scratchy, bisserl Like old records or creaking wood, more rock than metal or short: Marshall) and so the machine is now nothing for those who want to cover everything from the flippers to Sepultura. In my opinion the range ranges from slow blues to hard rock. For those who can live with it: Buy.

I use it (in combination with a Vox-Treter with real tube (Big Ben) for occasional dripping and softening) for months and come - admittedly a bit flowery formulated - from the swarm no more raus. For me, the Box of Rock is the ultimate treadmill. I do not know it all, but a few.

If someone should stand the same choice as I said: Yes, the Okko Diablo is great, there is no Vertun. Yes, the Okko Diablo does not scratch quite so much and sings for something more. And yes, I am a bit ashamed, because it is measured, measured by my talent and my income, but I have both of them and do not regret it. But in doubt: Clearly the box of rock.
