Classic looks, complex sound

With the Caz series, the Turkish cymbal specialist Zultan has created a collection of extremely inexpensive handcrafted cymbals made of premium B20 bronze. Their sound profile has been carefully tuned to make them ideal for Jazz, as well as other genres that tend towards the mellow. The cymbals are manufactured in Turkey using methods that have remained more or less unchanged for centuries, with a great emphasis on skilled handcraft – the simple, classic look of the cymbals is just as traditional as the workmanship itself. The Caz range includes numerous Crash, Crash/Ride, Ride, Sizzle Ride, and Hi-Hat models; two pre-configured sets are also available.

Zultan 20" Caz Crash, Jazz cymbal

Quality craftsmanship at a competitive price

Merely mentioning handcrafted cymbals from Turkey is enough to get knowledgeable drummers and percussionists pricking up their ears. However, a look at the prices involved will often have their jaws dropping, too. This is exactly where Zultan's Caz cymbals come in: Rarely has so much musical mojo been available for so little money. Now, some of the premium models from the established brands truly are outstanding – but the Caz cymbals, which are completely hand-lathed and hammered over their entire surface, are extremely competitive contenders. The 20" crash here brings a warm, earthy sound with fine treble detail and a sensitive stick response. Thanks to its impressive size and articulate sound, it can also be used as a lightweight ride.

Jazz in Turkish

Caz is simply the Turkish word for Jazz, and it's clear that these cymbals have been designed with that very purpose in mind. Jazz drummers need light instruments that react to the gentlest touch and deliver a balanced, harmonious sound across all dynamic levels, from soft to loud. Of course, this applies not only to Jazz, but to genres like Blues, Funk, Latin, and Soul, where Caz cymbals can also be played to their strengths. As such, this 20" crash can be used in a variety of ways, delivering just the right sound for each of the aforementioned genres, and responding well to rods or brushes, too.

About Zultan

To provide traditional craftsmanship at a fair price has been the guiding principle of Zultan ever since it was founded in 2000. The firm’s practice of selling directly to the end customer makes it possible to offer very customer-friendly prices. Nevertheless, the production process for Zultan’s trademark cymbals, which are made mainly in Turkey, is of the highest quality, a fact which has ensured they have also been a fixture in the Thomann range since 2011. The nearly 250 Zultan products cover several cymbal series, catering for all sectors of the music market. Zultan also offers accessories such as bags and drumsticks. Thanks to the use of high-quality materials and manufacturing expertise, Zultan really does offer uncompromising quality at a reasonable price.

Zultan 20" Caz Crash, Jazz cymbal

Jazz is just the beginning…

The Zultan Caz cymbals may have Jazz in their name, but can be used almost universally and are at home wherever pleasant, balanced cymbals are required – they have a warm sound spectrum without jarring frequencies. This is the case for all kinds of acoustic, unamplified music, which might include unplugged guitar sessions, but also live Salsa gigs or Gospel concerts in churches. Of course, there's nothing to stop Caz cymbals being used with amplified music too, as long as they're played sensitively and with the right tools. The Zultan 20" Caz Crash has a fast, articulate and yet warm and washy crash; despite the clear, powerful accents it's capable of contributing, it'll never be too loud or dominant, melting instead into the sound of the rest of the band.

Amazing crash, even for heavier music
Vykintas 01.03.2020
I use this crash for progressive/death metal music. I have not ever played a crash over 19", and this one is my favourite by far. I also own a 17" caz crash, which also sounds amazing.
Despite its size, the crash opens up instantly even with the slightest hits. It is very washy, thus really suitable even for heavier music.
The quality of this cymbal was by far the best of any Zultan cymbal I own - no strange small dents, no fingerprints, nothing.
I absolutely love this crash and currently this is my favourite crash i have ever played (have tried Sabians AA thin crashes, Istanbul Mehmets, and Zildjian A customs in the past).
What I would like to add - those who like using bells on a crash cymbal - this cymbal is not for you. Its bell has completely NO bell-like sound, which seemed strange to me, but i never use it, so i dont mind.
However - would absolutely recommend. Keep an eye out for "amendedband" channel on YT for a review.

Exceeds expectations
Butter on a budget 20.03.2024
I once ordered a pair of sultan splashes (raw and aja) to use as a set of mini hats. I love them but there wasn’t much else that appealed. Years later I go looking for a big crash that would sound like my mates crazy expensive Heartbeat crashes.

Wow, I find that Zultans range has expanded massively. On comparing videos and reviews I decided to take a punt on the Caz 20” crash, for £150 it wasn’t going to be a disaster if it didn’t work.

But …. Oh my!!! This thing sounds exactly like how I remembered the heartbeat crash. Big, soft, warm, washy, dark and a little dry. I absolutely love it!!

I can’t vouch for longevity, (like any thin crash I suppose) but I’ve used it recording and live quite a few times, and both lightly and giving it a big ole whack! What’s even better, one of those occasions was playing with said friend and his heartbeat crashes, we played the heartbeats and the Caz together for a few nights at a big conference and they sounded perfect together! It records beautifully too!

Will definitely be buying more of these!! I just can’t see how at that price anyone could be less than delighted with this cymbal.

Velvet butter.

I'm playing 30ish years, have spent some crazy money on cymbals over the years. I refuse to fork out big money anymore.

Over xmas I picked up a 20" Zultan Caz Crash. Beautiful velvety tone. One of the nicest cymbals I've heard.

Reliability...only time will tell. If this cymbal goes the distance, then I'll be buying several more.

This thing blew my mind.

For 149 euros this thing is a beast.
The cymbal looks even better in real life.
It doesn't got any weird spots so quality control is good.
When i took it out of the bag and hit the cymbal with my hand i got presented with a big whoosh sound, it opened up real quick.
The cymbal itself is really thin so that's one thing you have to keep in mind, i would call it a thin crash.
It has a beautiful dark tone with a hint of trashiness.
I can safely say that Zultan is the best value cymbal brand out there.
