I use this set of strings for a short-scale 1950s Gretsch Rambler. I'm somewhat familiar with Thomastiks, having used them on my vintage Martin and modern Gibson acoustics, and in terms of quality this set is no different. The string-to-string balance is excellent, the feel is superb, honestly these strings completely brought this guitar alive.

Definitely worth a try if you're not into flatwounds on archtops, and are looking for something different with a little bit more 'edge'. The construction is brilliant and the strings are on a year and still sound as good as day one.

Jazz Saiten mit Biss

Verarbeitung, Stimmstabilität und Haltbarkeit sind top. Im Diskant die messingbeschichteten Plain Steels sehr ausgewogen, voll und warm. Im Bass durch die Runddrahtbewicklung relativ aggressiv und höhenreich für Jazz-Saiten. Allerdings fehlt 'irgendwie' der Druck und Knack. Man kann sie gut zweckentfremden für Drop-Tunings, in Grenzen bis in den Blues-Rock-Bereich. Für Soli klingen sie auch stärker verzerrt noch gut, Single Note Riffs auf den Bassaiten fehlt allerdings trotz kräftiger Höhen der Punch.

Wie häufig bei Thomastik ist die Saitenspannung gemessen an der Stärke relativ gering, das gilt auch für die Diskantsaiten.

Mein Geschmack sind sie nicht, aber gerade wenn man in der Band akkustische Durchsetzungsprobleme hat, sind die Saiten einen Versuch wert.

Superbes cordes pour archtop

J'utilise ces cordes sur ma Gibson ES-150 de 1937 sur laquelle j'utilisais précédemment des D'Addario EJ21 (Nickel Wound, 12-52) puis des Thomastik BB113, et je suis ravi du changement: par rapport aux D'Addario, ces nouvelles cordes sont plus souples, le son est beaucoup moins brillant type "folk" (je devais jouer les précédentes une ou deux semaines avant que le son soit convenable), la guitare sonne beaucoup plus acoustique et plus égale. Ce tirant est parfait pour une guitare qui peut l'encaisser, les cordes aigûes notamment ont beaucoup plus de consistance, et la guitare sonne plus. Malgré leur prix élevé et une usure assez rapide, notamment de la corde de Sol, je n'utilise plus que ces cordes.

Ik ben ooit begonnen met de 012 uit de bebop serie. Het viel mij meteen op hoe soepel deze snaren speelden. Inmiddels ben ik opgeklommen naar 014. Nog steeds heb ik niet het gevoel dat ik op hele dikke snaren speel; nog steeds is daar die soepelheid. Deze set geeft een erg fijn geluid op mijn archtop gitaar. Ik merk het vooral bij het spelen van melodieën op de hoge B en E snaren: het klinkt dikker en heeft meer sustain dan snaren van lichtere setjes. Goed, buigen kun je vergeten, maar daar is deze set dan ook niet voor bedoeld.
Door voor de bebop serie te kiezen (roundwounds) in plaats van de swing serie (flatwounds) hou je meer hoog in het geluid, iets waar ik de voorkeur aan geef.
Het zijn zeker niet de goedkoopste snaren. Maar je doet er lang mee. Laat ze rustig een jaar op de gitaar zitten. Misschien nog wel langer ook.
Ik raad deze set absoluut aan.
