Thomastik AB345 Acoustic Bass

These bass strings are fantastic for people who try to get a very soft attack, quick decay, warm sound. It gives a vibe that sounds between a classical guitar and a double bass, very interesting and expressive.

Three caveats:
- The strings are slack and roll under the (picking) fingers. It needs some time to adjust.
- You need a piezo, as they won't word for magnetic pickup
- Because of the low tension, they produce a quieter sound.

Pros (why I cannot use anything else on my acoustic bass)
- the sound is unique, soft, acoustic, doublebass-y, lush, rich.
- the strings are consistent between sizes, and between sets

Bought these strings to replace the stock ones that came with my acoustic roundback. What an improvement! The nylon core makes them so much easier to play, while the sound is even more contra-bass like. This guitar now earned a permanent spot in the living room, and gets grabbed whenever I want to play along without setting up an amp. with amp, the sound is even more impressive than with 'normal' strings: deeper lows, but with a pleasant range of rich overtones.

Die Saiten sind momentan auf meinem Doderer Stallion 5 Akustikbass und da sind sie auch genau richtig.

Am besten kann man sich den Unterschied zwischen diesen Saiten (Nylonkern) und "normalen" Akustikbass-Bronzesaite (Metallkern) vorstellen, wenn man an den Unterschied zwischen klassischen Nylonstring-Gitarren und Westerngitarren mit Stahlsaiten denkt.

Die Thomastiks sind etwas leiser als reine Steels mit Bronzebeschichtung. Auch ist der Saitenzug bei weitem nicht so hoch. Wer also mit klassischen Nylonsaiten aufgrund des niedrigen Zugs Probleme bekommt, sollte besser auf etwas anderes zurückgreifen. Wer den Sound mag und mit dem niedrigen Zug zurechtkommt, wird mit qualitativ sehr hochwertigen, sehr lange haltenden Saiten mit einem extrem runden und artikulierten Klang belohnt. Das Klangbild ist über alle 5 Saiten sehr ausgewogen und auch bei Akkorden "matscht" rein gar nichts. Das habe ich so bisher mit Saiten mit Metallkern nicht hinbekommen.

Also: Rocksongs unplugged geht auch anders und billiger. Sollte es allerdings etwas differenzierter werden und der Bass auch mal als Solinstrument herhalten müssen, sind diese Saiten für mich erste Wahl.
