A pro-grade monitor for beginners

With a design reminiscent of high-end monitors, a set of the box pro DSX 110 M speakers will look good on any stage. But the entry-level price doesn't mean that the 110 M is lacking any of the features and settings a professional would expect: Sound presets for vocals and drums, a range of low-cut filters, and a three-band equaliser all work to ensure the sound is always ideal. The first thing users will notice, however, is the speaker's active archichtecture, with the integrated amp saving on space. The standard setup for monitors is just to place them at the musicians' feet, but the speaker flange means the box pro DSX 100 M can also be erected on any of the countless stands available. Whichever way it's installed, the professional power twist sockets guarantee secure connections for the next live act.

Make soundchecks easy again

Two XLR/jack combo outputs with dedicated gain pots are provided to get mic and line signals on board, with an XLR output ready to send the sum to the next monitor. There's also a 3.5mm jack for stereo input from an MP3 source or CD player. The range of functionality provided by the DSP can be accessed using the push dial that also controls the master volume: The DSP offers four sound presets for bands, guitar, vocals, and drums, as well as a four-level low cut, a three-band equaliser, and EQ configurations designed to specifically complement usage as a floor monitor or on a stand. To make the soundcheck that much easier, the backlit display shows all the relevant settings. When it comes to specs, each the box pro DSX 110 M generates 300W RMS in a frequency range between 60Hz and 18kHz, with a 60° x 60° dispersion angle, and weighs in at 14.6kg.

First steps on stage

Sound engineers running live gigs will appreciate the fact that their the box pro DSX 110 M monitors come fitted with locking power twist sockets, ensuring a reliable power supply. Equally, beginners will find life easier with the sound presets provided by the DSP, meaning they'll soon find the right monitor settings for vocals, drums – or the whole band. Solo artists, comedians and the like can connect backing tracks to the AUX-in, and if they also have to manage their own monitor mix, the graphical display is a great help. The discreet, unobtrusive design of the DSX 110 M is also a big plus when there's not much else on stage for the audience to look at, especially if it's used as a floor monitor. Conversely, many DJs and keyboard players – and anyone else who makes music standing up – often prefer to have the monitor at ear-level, and they can easily mount the speaker on a stand (sold separately). There's even a dedicated sound preset for this very function.

Gig tips – for rockstars and roadies

For their first gigs or tours, the entry-level monitor the box pro DSX 110 M will give all the musicians on stage – provided the overall sound levels aren't too loud – a realistic sense of the music they're playing. The well-equipped DSP will help make every soundcheck a success, for example with a low cut filter that helps emphasise the presence of vocals. And when using the DSX as a vocal monitor, it's also a good idea to position the speaker in a certain way: Because vocal mics usually have a cardiod polar pattern, which accepts some soundwaves coming from behind the mic, it's best to set up the monitor to one side of the singer, while lowering the treble with the integrated equaliser. This is an effective way of reducing feedback. If the speaker is going to be stored – or go on tour – then one very useful accessory is the Thomann Cover for the box pro DSX 110 M.

Good quality monitor, not much of PA
Kakao106 05.04.2023
The speaker is missing the lower frequencies which is good if you consider this a monitor speaker for a singer/guitarist (no feedback and buildup of lower frequencies on stage). I would not recommend to use this as main PA. For me it sounds best on "Drums" setting with no EQ applied.

There is a tiny bit of hiss i can hear from my unit (which will not be a problem on a noisy stage)

Certainly loud enough, i can hear my voice clearly.

I love the fact that there is and indicator led under the speaker grill showing you that the speaker is powered on (you don't have to look from the side). You can disable the indicator led in menu if you find it disturbing.

Otherwise solid construction, good quality, solid front mesh (you can step on), heavy (in a good way), reasonable size. Super easy to transport (good handles anywhere, fits good in hand)

Would recommend..
