A modern guitar with Californian flair

Taylor Gold Label 517e, acoustic steel-string

The experts for acoustic guitars at Taylor have added a high-class Grand Pacific dreadnought to their 500 Series: The Taylor Gold Label 517e blends modern guitar design with a vintage Californian vibe. It's fitted with a solid spruce top that's been torrefied – that is, heat-treated – for durability and improved sound, paired with a mahogany back and sides, Taylor's V-Class bracing, and an LR Baggs pickup system. This is all wrapped up in an elegant, natural-wood finish with a distinctive firestripe pickguard. But the guitar's not just a looker – it's got the sound to match. Warm, dry, very woody, with seemingly endless depth and incredible articulacy. The Gold Label has that signature Taylor playability too: smooth, direct, responsive. Anyone who's after a soulful, versatile steel-string that can handle stage, studio, and songwriting sessions with style – here's one with real high-end boutique charm. It comes with a premium case and, more imporantly, that handmade in southern California quality, which can be seen and felt in every detail.

Easy to play, easy on the eye

The Grand Pacific dreadnought shape, paired with Taylor's V-Class bracing, gives the Gold Label 517e a warm, balanced tone with stunning intonation – and incredible sustain. The torrefied spruce top responds fast and brings a touch of vintage timbre, while the mahogany back and sides add a nice midrange warmth and clarity to the mix. The mahogany neck and the ebony fretboard combine for instant playability without comprimising on precision – great for both rhythm and lead work. And while the LR Baggs Element VTC pickup system captures the guitar's unique voice beautifully, the inobtrusive volume and tone thumbwheels are tucked neatly away on the inside edge of the soundhole, allowing guitarists to adjust their sound on the fly, but maintaining the guitar’s clean look. Because it does look incredible, too: Natural woods with a high gloss finish, a stylish firestripe pickguard, and plenty of classy little details all around. All in all, a beautifully made guitar that looks amazing and sounds even better.

For exacting acoustic experts

The Taylor Gold Label 517e is made for players who really care about rich sound, genuine character, and that inspiring feel under their fingers. It’s got a warm, balanced expressiveness with a nice, resonant low end: Perfect for singer-songwriters, fingerstyle folks, or anyone who wants a punchy, dynamic sound to back up their vocals – or the rest of the band. But even amateur players will appreciate how accessible and comfortable the combination of neck, frets, and fingerboard are; of course, the rest of the build quality is also top-notch. Now, for pros chasing an unusually cutting, bright presence or an especially loud, mid-forward stage dreadnought, this might not be the right piece. But for any music lovers looking for tonal maturity, subtle electronic amplification, and a guitar that just has its own vibe – this could be the one! Not for everyone, maybe, but practically perfect for a lot of players.

About Taylor Guitars

Taylor Guitars was co-founded by Bob Taylor in California in 1974 and from the outset specialised in the construction of high-quality acoustic guitars. By focusing on state-of-the-art manufacturing methods and very high standards of quality, Taylor Guitars has made it into the top echelon of fine guitar makers. Names such as Taylor Swift, Leo Kottke, Prince, David Gilmour, and former US President Bill Clinton are a testament to the popularity of the instruments, which are also reputed for their playability. The creation of a second workshop in Mexico has meant that Taylor guitars are also available in the mid-priced segment.

Stylish sound in every setting

Whether it's on stage, in the studio, or playing an intimate acoustic solo set, the Taylor Gold Label 517e brings endless versatility and unique character to the table. Its dynamic response and wide tonal range make it a great fit for singer-songwriters, fingerstyle players, and anyone who loves rich, full chord strumming. And thanks to the built-in LR Baggs Element VTC system, it's also a reliable partner when amplified – whether it's been plugged straight into the desk, run through a DI box, or paired it with an acoustic amp. Its sound really shines when complemented with a touch of quality reverb or a subtle delay. Equally, when played in a full band, that Grand Pacific shape is capable of laying down a balanced foundation without stepping on the other instruments. This is a guitar whose sound is clear and punchy, yet always elegant – perfect for players who want a distinctive acoustic voice that's all their own, whether they're playing solo or in the mix.
