Toys for professionals!

Andreas126, 12.09.2012
I consider the FR1x to be a great extension of my stage set-up as a keyboard player and singer, unfortunately with considerable weaknesses in the fast and reliable operation of the instrument in live operation.

The accordion sounds are, to my mind, for the most part very good, even if one has to look for his personal favorites for a long time. My current favorite set from the Klangerweiterung 01 "Alpine" was unfortunately not included in the scope of delivery and was sent to me by Thomann only after additional request.

The "orchestral sounds" can not be compared with the usual Roland standard and throw me personally back into the age of the SC55. Embarrassing! Unfortunately, this also affects the Sounderweiterung 03.

The organ sounds can be used very dynamically realistically by the bellows volume control (volume control by Balg is live great!) But also the sounds are rather tired and expressionless, very sad.
The effects are awesome! What was Roland thinking about? I have never heard such bad useless effects in any instrument since the Hallspiral in my first Hammond! I'm lost for words. I use the microphone path of my Tyros in the stage setup and can select and program such demanding, controllable effects.

Operation:
Even the translator of the manual could not resist the cynical fun and speaks of "deciphering" the display. Where display is mercilessly exaggerated, the first Casio digital clocks had more signs than this slightly red flickering something.

- Transpose and balance
I miss the opportunity to use these very important functions for me live. The "detour" via the confusing menu, which can also be called up only with time delay by long pressing the set key, prevents the use in the real game mode. Balanceregler and transposetaster are only available in larger models.

- Shuffle the mp.3 files
The same problem occurs when playing prepared playbacks via the song player!
This is really unbelievable, not even playing 2 songs in a row is possible, without the complicated menu selection to perform, or times again somewhere to push, although extra 3 keys for the player are provided!
The player in the live insert as good as useless!

- Basic principles of the operating concept:
The operation of the FR1x presents itself as very confusing and live unsuitable.
The organization of setups, Sundsets, usersounds usersets, orchestras and organ sounds has not really opened up to me yet. The chaos completely then makes the attempt to create sets by the editor software and insert them meaningfully. Impossible! By the way, the editor software does not run under Mountain Lion!
If you have managed to get a user set with incredible 8! To create memory locations where the transpose setting can not be stored even times, and then live a change in the register wants to fly, flies the complete setup "around the ears". Too bad.
Also the selection of single sounds from the sounder extensions without loading the "sample programs" seems impossible.
Here is the attempt to make transponing from a user program: Leave user program, you can not play any more, because all sounds, seemingly indiscriminately (reset to output mode) hold Set key pressed. Infinite 5sec, seek transpose function. Transpose. Re-enable the user program and continue to play. That is not possible!

A fundamental change of the operating concept is indispensable for the use of the live. Maybe with a few more buttons.
In order not to make it all quite negative, I consider the idea of ??the electric accordion, as well as the implementation of the bellows-volume mechanism for really good! I will also despite all (still existing) problems do not want to renounce my FR1x, since the implementation of the radio-driven, not microphone-dependent accordion is really great and has an absolute existence.
Maybe just a little better ...

Supplement on 24.11.13:
After problems with the securing of sound combinations and a total failure on the stage and problems with the bass strap, I got a new instrument.
In this case too, the bass strap was released within a short time. When the instrument came back, the whole bass side did not play anymore, after a new service the instrument with defective bass register has now returned.
Too bad, my Roland Accordion is unfortunately no joy.
For now also clear deductions in the stars.

Still? N Supplement:
Thomann has taken back the instrument very well!
Thanks a lot, now I am with a Roland FR3x in combination with the X-Air 12 from Behringer as an effect device on the road and I have arranged with the habituationbedürftigen service.
The V-accordions offer to me many advantages through the simple connection to the PA and the night-time or the transposing possibility. As shown in Fig.

Lightweight, improved bellows resistance, sound quite satisfactory especially with the helmet, perfect to work in the evening, at night or to isolate in the day, super look, no regret.
