Fully equipped for music production

The Maschine+ from Native Instruments is a fully equipped music production studio in the form of a standalone groovebox, and is the first model in the series to combine instruments, samples, and effects in a single device. With a powerful quad-core processor and 4GB of RAM, it enables completely independent work, offering Maschine fans a brand-new, intuitive workflow: Just start creating! Whether recording song ideas, mixing, or performing live, the Maschine+ proves its versatility in every situation. Its numerous rear connections allow seamless integration into any setup, even supporting a foot pedal. This makes the Maschine+ not just a portable music production studio but also an intuitive hub for any home studio.

Intuitive user interface

The Maschine+ features 16 velocity-sensitive pads for playing notes. In addition, it includes buttons for essential functions such as recording and editing sequences, quantising, step sequencing, selecting chords, creating variations, and muting or soloing individual tracks. Eight rotary encoders can be used to control effects and sends. Instead of traditional pitch and modulation wheels, the Maschine+ is equipped with a touch-sensitive strip. The rotary encoder is used for adjusting parameters like volume, tempo, swing, and note repeat, while the extensive transport section includes functions such as record, play, and stop, as well as options for setting loops, deleting, and replacing sequences. Two colour displays provide an overview of selected instruments and settings. Next to these, controls are available for selecting instruments, samples, and effects, as well as adjusting fundamental settings.

Produce music anytime, anywhere!

With the Maschine+, users can effortlessly capture spontaneous song ideas in the form of beats or melodies and arrange and mix them in detail. A dedicated input allows for the connection of a microphone, making vocal recording just as straightforward. This comprehensive feature set enables users to create stage-ready and radio-quality tracks in no time, and thanks to its Wi-Fi capability, updates can be downloaded at any time, ensuring that the Maschine+ remains up to date. The Link function enables communication and synchronisation with other devices, allowing seamless wireless integration into an existing setup.

About Native Instruments

Native Instruments is a Berlin-based company, founded in 1996, which specialises in products for computer-assisted music production. The company develops a wide variety of products: software solutions such as Komplete, which hosts a huge range of virtual instruments that emulate both acoustic and electronic instruments in hi-fi quality, and Reaktor, which lets you create your own virtual instruments – through to hardware products such as beat-making and DJ controllers. Native Instruments' goal is to inspire and encourage musicians with its innovative products. To this end, more than 500 people are employed at the company's headquarters in Berlin and at other locations including Los Angeles, Toronto, Tokyo, London, Paris, and Shenzhen. Since 2023, the manufacturers Plugin Alliance, iZotope, and Brainworx have also been part of Native Instruments.

Loaded with software instruments, samples, and effects

The internal storage comes preloaded with the Maschine+ Selection software package and also includes the Maschine Factory Library, and for those who want even more, a voucher for two additional expansions is provided. The 32GB eMMC flash storage offers ample space for essential software and samples. With the 64GB SD card provided, users can load additional expansions and import their own samples – this can be done via the two USB ports. The USB connection also allows Maschine+ to function as a controller, provided the system requirements of macOS 10.14/10.15 or Windows 10 (both 64-bit) are met.

Great unit and its super flexible
Good Life Guy 14.06.2025
I will try to write this review short because there are so many things I can say.

First of all the unit looks, feels and sounds great.
- The build quality is good and sturdy, however the encoders can twitch sometimes.
- The pads are very solid and responsive.
- The buttons have a very nice click to them that give you a nice taktile feeling.
- The unit is made of plastic with an aluminium top and it feels very solid.

Regarding the software performance:
- The unit is very versitle and you really do have the entire maschine 2 inside at your finger tips and for 90% of the functions you can do it on the hardware without any computer interaction.
- The samples, instruments and fx are what we know and love NI about, but if anything, I wish it had a multiband compressor and that the compressor had a way to disable auto makeup gain as well as some form of gian reduction meter so I can have a visual representation of the gain reduction as well.

There are so many other good things I can say about this but instead I want to mention the few things I dont like so you can be fully aware before making the purchase.

- If you want to use program change and cc messages, to send to other devices from maschine +, you need to connect those devices to your computer, run the project in the maschine 2 software on your computer and perform all of the programming on there and then just transfer the project to maschine + and reconnect all of the hardware devices that will be receiving these messages. There is no way to edit, program change and cc messages from the hardware itself.

If you want to use a separate midi controllers knobs to turn macros or other knobs inside of maschine+ when performing live, you need to set this up with the maschine 2 software on your computer by connecting your midi controller to your computer and then transfering the project to maschine+ and re-connecting the midi controller.

- There are no 3rd party fx when in standalone mode, you can only use the Instruments and FX from maschine 2, while you can upload or sample any audio you want on the hardware itself.

- Only NI audio interfaces will work well with this unit. Technically it does support 3rd party audio interfaces over usb and it does see them as well as their channels, however you can experience dropouts and unexpected behaviour from the interfaces unless they are made by NI.

- The way we are using the unit to perform live both with pre-prepared songs with structures or for dawless jamming, there is a lot of page switching and menu diving if you want to tweak many parameters on the fly while performing.

- You have to monitor the CPU load when building projects to use live. I have had this thing crash a few times during rehearsals and once live. It turned out that monark as a bass vst is too cpu intensive. I think it hogged up to 50% of the CPU just for 1 instance at heavy cpu times and these spikes caused the maschine+ to crash a few times. I made good use of the autosampler that maschine offers and just ended up sampling my monark, bass preset and now it sounds the same yet doesnt use so much CPU. I think currently by combing sampled drums, programmed to play live, playing sampled bass, sending midi to 2 external synths and a guitar & vocal fx processor, playing sampled leads, flutes, asian instruments and having all of the eqs, compressors for the live mix as well as reverb and delays on send busses, I am using only up to 70% of the CPU at the hottest times. So the capabilites are there, but you have to be smart about them if you want to use all of the bells and whistles at once in standalone mode.

- There were a few other things but I will come back to add them in when I remember.

In conclusion:

The unit is amazing, especially for the price, thats why I gave it 5 stars in all categories. Consider the particularities I mentioned above and everything else is golden on this. I am very happy with this purchase.

HI,
I trust the engineers from Native Instruments. Despite all the complaints about the software problems (November - December 2020), I remember when I first used Maschine mk1 the software was also version 1.XX. But shortly after, the software was completely revamped, completely rewritten and today Maschine Software is the industry standard for creating music. Extremely well designed and made product, the feeling during work is as if you were reborn. Let's give some time to the producers of Native Instruments to smooth out the slight problems, and until then make our music so that we feel happy with the choice we have made. M+ is often compared to other brands and their models, but keep in mind that no other groovebox brand offers the ability to use VST tools of such a high class, and more functionality is expected to be added to the current capabilities by Komplete.

Great build quality, solid structure, superb sound you can't ask for anything more! maschine+ is a must for the modern producer without using pc/mac it's a powerfull beast. It worked immediatly with A49 and o.s. 1.4 solves a lot of ram&cpu usage issues that may have been in the past. Expansions are great for all kinds of music but those ones on edm, house, minimal the really hit the spot very well and professionally made!
