Mesa Mark 5:35

07.06.2016
The amp sounds glorious, rich and is versatile. The added solo control is pure genius especially for live use. Best amp ever!!

Only downside was that the amp was delivered with a wrong slip cover. However, after notifying customer service, they took care of it and arranged for the correct cover to be sent to me, good job!

Compact 50 watt amp

C14, 21.08.2017
Yes, that's right: this supposed 35-watt amplifier is a 50 watt device of appearance and music performance, so you never reach its performance limits. My guess is that he's reported as 35W to nominally maintain a distance to the 90W Giant who, if there's a "Mark V 50", would not be that good over the counter.

Sufficient has been written about the Mark V series. It is unanimous that this is one of the best (unfortunately also the most expensive) guitar amp ever. I have nothing to add, the amps are good.
But what makes the Mark V 35 interesting? I own also the Mark V 25. That is enough for actually practically everything easily. Volume? Pressure? Wealth? Enormous. Everything else would be bodily harm. However, I have the particular application to play loud clean jazz solos from an ES 335 through 2 compressors into the already tube-compressing clean pre-amp. This is a tone of such thickness that the Mark V 25 begins to distort quite easily. Since I appreciate everything else about this amp, however, the Mark V 35 had to come here.

In the band context, I play style except for solo passages clean. That's why the clean sound is crucial to me, and that's what makes the boogies so full, warm and clear, like no other manufacturer knows.

The Mark V can (except for "Marshall") everything, and not in any way, but in top quality. Jazz, Soul, Blues, Rock, Metal: Everything in it, all the best.

The extras make a lot of difference: The graphical EQ makes perfect sense to make the desired crunch or solo sound from the raw material. The solo pedaling option is super practical. The "Boost" center control is actually a tube overdrive and forms its own pre-amp sound. This seven-fold selection of the preliminary stages is terrific.

The solo sounds are incredible: strong instead of clanging, fat to snappy. The first time I played a Mark V, I immediately felt at home (unlike the "Express 5:50 +").

I have not used the boxing simulation yet, but nice that it is there. I do not like the hall: Blurring cathedral sound. I play a good digital reverb in the - trouble-free - effect loop.

Unquestionably a word about the speakers: Anyone who actually moves his system occasionally, for example in a small car, will appreciate the compactness of the 25W model - even the "35 W" is still good and one-hand transportable. Tip: Instead of the flight case, I transport the 35W in an "Accu-Case ATP-22 Padded Bag". Fittingly I use of MesaBoogie a "wide body 1x12" open back box, which transmits perfectly, as well as with performances additionally a MesaBoogie Thiele box, usually as a monitor. This is as inconspicuous as powerful.

Conclusion: The "25 W" is ideal - my recommendation. For special applications, for people with hearing loss (or who want to buy one): The "35 W". If you want to ventilate cupboard-sized speakers or if you really need a third channel (and do not like the kicker): The "90 W". Have fun!
