Let's put on a show

The Mackie ShowBox is a battery‑powered loudspeaker built for life on the go, serving as a complete solution for all live performers, street musicians, and buskers. One unique feature is the ShowBox's removable mixer, which combines a multi-channel EQ with a whole host of effects so musicians can give their performances real personality. The rear panel of the speaker cabinet has six inputs, enough for two vocal mics, a guitar and a bass, and a stereo keyboard. The package also includes a generous set of accessories to help nail every track, including four jack cables and a clip for attaching the mixer to a mic stand. And for recording the whole set in all its glory, the ShowBox has both a USB‑C interface and a drive for an SD card. All that's missing now are the instruments, the mics – and the musicians themselves.

Enough output for outdoors

This mobile loudspeaker is fitted with an amplifier that delivers a mighty 400W of power, meaning it can reach a truly ear-splitting maximum SPL of 122dB. The cabinet is loaded with an 8" woofer and a 1" compression driver, together covering a frequency range of roughly 48Hz to 20kHz, with the crossover point sitting at 1.8kHz. The rear‑panel connectors offer flexible input options for a wide range of instruments: Channels 1 and 3 are set up for microphones, while channels 2 and 4 allow guitarists and bassists to plug their instruments in via a TRS jack cable. Channels 5 and 6 function as a stereo pair for a keyboard or similar; if only the left input is used, the signal is played back across both channels. To cover all the bases, the Mackie ShowBox also has an AUX/Bluetooth input.

Complete control

The Mackie ShowBox's breakaway mixer gives musicians complete control over their sound, with effects, an EQ, and much more. It's connected to the speaker itself with the CAT5 cable provided. The top row has clearly labelled switches for users to select a channel to edit, with a three‑band EQ and a level control beneath that. The bottom row comprises a very effective compressor and – the star attraction – two push‑dials that can scroll through and adjust up to 13 different effects, applied to each channel individually; the effects' names are clearly legible on their mini LCD screens. On the right‑hand side are separate volume controls for the speaker itself and the headphone output, a battery‑level display, the record button, and a surprisingly intuitive looper. With the dedicated ShowBox footswitch (sold separately), artists have even more control over the looper and the effects.

I could play for hours

The Mackie ShowBox is built for all live musicians who want an easy‑to‑use, flexible all‑in‑one solution for their performances. It won't just amplify an entire band of up to five artists – the mixer can manage and adjust each channel on the fly, with further options on the main unit, like a dedicated outdoor mode and a feedback eliminator, for a really professional‑sounding performance. With a maximum battery life of up to 12 hours off a single charge, it's got enough juice for playing several sets over a single day. Guitarists will also appreciate the mixer's integrated tuner – the little thing is just incredibly versatile. Weighing in at just 9.5kg, the ShowBox itself is pretty versatile too; it's really easy to transport thanks to its recessed carry handles.

About Mackie

In 1988 Greg Mackie, already a successful co-founder of a pro audio company, founded Mackie Designs Inc. with the goal of producing affordable, high-quality mixers. The company's first official product, the LM-1602 line mixer, was initially produced within the four walls of his home. As sales figures were encouraging, its successor model CR-1604 soon followed - and in 1991 the company finally moved into its first proper production facility. The combination of reliable quality and low prices quickly brought the company enormous success, so that by 1995 Mackie had already sold 100,000 products. In 2003, the company was renamed LOUD Audio, LLC so that there is no longer any confusion between the Mackie brand and its former parent company of the same name.

They thought of everything

The Mackie ShowBox lets musicians start entertaining their audience virtually immediately – straight out of the backpack, so to speak. And with the detachable mixer, they'll always have their sound under control: It can be mounted on any standard mic stand, making it possible for guitarists, for instance, to control all their parameters as they play. The effects section gives performers both familiar and new creative options for shaping their sets, with a solid variety of spatial, mod, and drive effects: Two effects can be applied to each channel separately, with the results saved as presets called Snapshots. There's even an adjustable FX loop for external effects pedals. Mackie has clearly put real thought into every detail, even the ways the ShowBox might be used: It can be set on the ground like a bevelled stage monitor or attached to a stand with a 36mm flange.

Exceeded my Expectations
BeatBusker 11.05.2024
Small clubs, Busking, Cafes, Living room, Band practice and everything in between, for it's size, nothing comes close.

I recently ran outdoors for two people, two mics, Piano, E Drums, and Acoustic guitar, 5 inputs and was able to play to an outdoor setting at a cafe on the road. This was more than enough assuming you have decent musicians that understand dynamics in that type of setting.

Regardless of your ability, this amp is more than just an amp.

For it's size and weight it is extreme value. Most folks would probably think it is expensive for what you get but lets compare the features that are all in one if you had to buy everything seperately.

The mixer alone with it's features would cost miminum 200 to get a 6 channel mixer that allowed for all the control, mute, Eq, two FX patches per channel and compression. Not to mention their is auto gain, and looper onboard. Having send return on this amp is the icing on the cake. If you have your own looper or pedal board that you can't live without then this is arguably the best bonus on the whole amp.

Mackie thought of everything. USB charging from the mixer for your tablet or device as well. I ran the whole system for about 4 hours with 2 musicians and 5 inputs on battery, plus an extra 2 hours of music between sets from my phone. Never had to plug it in. after 6 hours driving it with lots of power consumption. The amp promises 12 hours. Yet to get their, but I have put it through a 6 hour ringer which is more than enough for me.

It will probably require more battery life and bluetooth for wireless, but I think the next upgrade would be to make the break away mixer wireless on it's own battery. But that might have latency and data transmission problems to solve. Not a deal breaker.

My only complaint but it's not a deal breaker is the looper. Actually I can't complain because even if this had no looper it would still be an amazing value if you compare it's size and weight to the competition. The looper lacks basic single looper functionality. It would be nice if it had an undo and redo as most standard single loopers do. And I have never been a fan of double tap for start, stop, but I mostly use a seperate loop station anyway so not a big deal. The onboard looper is super fun to have when you are just messing around. Sounds silly, but I mostly Use this as my practice amp in the living room now when I am not moving around town with it.

I am not sure what comes close if I was going to compare this to competition. The Bose S1 has amazing sound for it's weight but costs more and has 2 channels. Most the mixing needs to be done from an app. Maybe the new Spark live is up there in value? It's cheaper than the showbox, but twice the weight.

Small learning curve, but very intuitive and easy to use. Mackie did it again.

Alles in einer Box
Ernesto78 18.03.2024

Soluzione tutto in uno
Julius93 19.02.2025

Spero di no.
