Guitars in the style of the Gibson Les Paul have a full, powerful sound that is particularly popular among Blues, Rock, and Metal guitarists. Many of these single-cut models are equipped with two humbucking pickups (or humbuckers), which makes them ideal for producing overdriven sounds. Historically, this design has combined a mahogany body and maple top with a fixed Tune-o-Matic bridge and stop tailpiece. Many manufacturers opt for other woods, leave out the maple top, or equip their single-cut guitars with different pickups and/or a vibrato system. Single-cut guitars have a relatively short scale length (the length of the vibrating string between the bridge and nut) of 628mm (24.75"), which means they feel slightly more compact - and have a lower string tension - than T and ST-style guitars, which generally have a 648mm (25.5") scale length.
Single-cut models with a poplar or basswood body, like the Harley Benton SC-200 BK Student Series and Harley Benton SC-400 SBK Vintage Series, are available from around 100 euros. Traditional-style models based on the Gibson Les Paul and featuring a mahogany body and maple top start at around 200 euros with the Harley Benton SC-450Plus CB Vintage Series, and players with around twice as much to spend can pick up a genuine maple-topped Les Paul from Epiphone (such as the Epiphone Les Paul Classic Worn). A range of original USA-made Gibson Les Paul models start at around 1000 euros, including the Gibson Les Paul Special and Les Paul Studio, and manufacturers like PRS have expanded on the classic Les Paul design by adding vibrato systems (on models like the PRS SE Mark Tremonti Standard). Players who want to create a completely unique single-cut guitar can also pick up one of Harley Benton's guitar kits, like the Harley Benton Electric Guitar Kit Single Cut.
