Great entry into the Friedman sound
Bittedours, 28.03.2019
It?s a great sounding amp, but feels a bit cheap quality wise compared to the handwired Pink Taco or Mini Dirty Shirley.
Sound wise, the other 2 handwired 20 watters sound and feel better.

Mostly top and unfortunately also some flop
wolle1802, 16.04.2017
The great ratings on Sweatwater u.ä. unfortunately I can not quite confirm. By itself, the Runt 20 sounds great, boxing 1960AX to frontloaded à la Diezel. Surprisingly the Spartan Clean Channel, despite missing 3 Band EQ sounds round and full, thus the ideal base for pedals from TS to heavy, the Lead Channel brings the Brown Sound à la BE 100 as desired and covers everything from late 60ies to late 80s and reacts great on the guitar volume, only then what? In direct comparison with a Recto (especially on Modern) the world is unfortunately over for the Runt 20.
If he does not necessarily, but, the Clean Channel with a corresponding pedal in front of it I like better soon, especially if it has a Noisegate like the MXR 5150.
The big disappointment is the loop, which unfortunately runs only on instrument level, so - 20 dB and a cable plugged into the send interrupts even the signal internally. How then integrate the Runt 20 in dual / triple amping? So middle Runt 20 dry, effects R + L on additional power amps with speakers? Do not go here. You can only loop back and only from high-quality low-level pedals, with high-level 19-inch devices, it buzzes clearly, no wonder, since the return in Aufholverstärkung runs to + 20 dB. Thus the amp can not be used as an output stage for external preamp signals via the return because it is totally overdriven. And he has no MV.
But old school as with a Plexi use the normal channel volume for power amp gain goes on the Runt 20 excellently in the clean channel, Bright switch completely off. But that is only a makeshift.
Absolutely wrong with me is the XRL output with boxing simulation sounds to me totally thin and can not provide a suitable signal for my headphone amplifier. It is supposed to be a dummy load in there for silent operation of the amp. For my headphone history that was a major purchase argument, but it does not work out that way.
Fortunately, I have a Powersoak PoS 100 of Tube-Town, which also provides a line-level signal and completely turned over the output to the box also acts as a dummy load, so the ideal basis for amps without MV is (eg a Plexi) and even also provides a usable signal for other power amplifiers. Headphone stories included.
Finally: For Spartan / dry things, the Runt 20 is great. And for owners of high-quality reverb / delay etc. Pedals too, but for complex applications like dual / triple amping it is unfortunately not suitable. Plain: Often you have more coherent sounds, in which one gives the effects of R + L to taste to the dry amp in the middle, the recording you put so synonymous several takes on each other. Back grinding often dilutes the beautiful full tube sound way too much. Just the two EL 84 of the Runt 20 come rel. early into saturation, which sounds great on its own - but 5 points - but who wants Chorus and the like? with overdrive tubes?
For the high price you could have expected a MV, loop level control high / low and also a standby switch, I do not want to talk about a footswitchable loop. Did I have everything in my custom made JTM 45 built in. MV, but it just does not have a rich high gain sound, but would be an additional amp for the BE sound of the Runt 20 ideal, if, yes, if just a versatile usable preamp signal would deliver. Too bad, too bad, unfortunately, with only a total of 4 points back.
