Really good sound, nice aesthetics
DimitCh, 14.02.2019
I currently use this pickup for my lavta (Istanbul lute) and it delivers an amazing sound, really close to the acoustic sound of the instrument. It is very clear, no hissing sound or other noise. So far I've used it at home and in studio, but I can't wait to use it to live situations as well. Not that I think (according to my so far experience) that it will sound bad. The volume knob is a really good addition, which can boost your sound when playing without any DI box, right through a mix table. Even the design is nice, which suits any wood instrument with its wooden looks. The only thing I didn't like so much, was the size of it. Of course this calls for a better technique, but sometimes it gets in the way of my picking style. However this happens because I wanted it just below my strings and not behind the bridge.

All in all it is a keeper. Clear, nice looking, convenient and for a nice price.

Transducer Comparison
ErichG, 05.12.2016
With the goal of giving my jazz guitar an occasional stronger acoustic note, I first tried the Audio-Technica 831b (clipmicro) - and I failed despite a long-term postioning attempts. Central, hollow sound and large feedback problems.

Next: A series of transducers. The setup: Höfner New President Jazzguitar> Transducer> Looper (to evaluate the results without the sound of the guitar)> AER 60 Compact (all tone controls on 12 o'clock). No effects. All transducers were placed one after the other on the same "sweet spot" of the guitar. Experienced playing techniques: fingerstyle, strumming with fingers, strumming with pick (gipsy) and singlenotes with pick. Results:

- Fire & Stone (Art. 371297): Pretty, removable cable = practical, a little big, the beautiful wood volume knob according to the online catalog was unfortunately not on it (only its schnuppdes carrier part of plastic). It is convenient to have a volume control on the pickup - especially with this model, because it couples quite fast. Sound: rather centered and dull.

- Shadow SH 2000 (Art. 120677): Despite the available volume and tone controls, not very large, inconspicuous. Controller work. Sound is extremely dependent on the positioning of the adhesive on the PU bottom. From strongly middle (almost fat) to thin and very high (but then really thin, rather already cutting) everything inside, only no basses. Unfortunately has always the certain "plasticimersound", as I call it.

- Gewa Multiphon (Art. 371299): Very large, very high, conspicuous, unsightly. Completely unusable, since the suction cup does not hold (wrong, much too stiff material).

- Harley concrete HB-T (art. 153929) made by Shadow. It looks more like a disposable product. Too many gluing-loosening processes are not trusted. Velcro cable holder does not work very well. Otherwise small, black, flat, pleasantly inconspicuous. Sound unfortunately dull, coupled fast. Otherwise, it does not work badly.

- AKG C411PP (Art. 121803): Very small, very inconspicuous. Cable looks somewhat filigree. Otherwise, solid overall impression. Sound: High output, incredibly precise highs, actually a bit too much of it (cutting). Works like an acoustic microscope in comparison to all other transducers. Problem: For basses the AKG C411 is not interested at all. You can hear the almost hi-fi-like quality, but the sounder result is simply unympathetic. And where there are no basses, you can not do with the EQ. Further disadvantage: Needs phantom power, therefore has XLR plug on it.

- Schaller Oyster: Hardware simple and solid. The metal capsule looks as if you could drive with the car; Unbreakable. Sound: not bad, but middle-heavy / nasal.

- Harley Benton True Tone T-20 (Art. 382442): The surprise. Ingenious cable concept, especially the cable holder for the belt pin. Cable length is accurate, not too long and not too short. Very guitarist friendly: Everything goes over the usual instrument cables. Any desired cable length can be simply dranstecken. This also makes the use of volume pedals (I think you need for something like that) and EQ- or effect devices wonderfully easy. Sound: For my setup and for my purposes the absolute winner. The only one of all tested transducers, which also listens to basses. Altitudes present but not too sharp. Mitten could be less, but this probably applies to all transducers. Unbeatable price. Clear purchase. (I think I'll be ordering a second one soon.)

Thanks to Thomann for the wide selection and the fast delivery service.
