Perfect tones

Owned a Fender Player Precision Bass for a few of years. The player precision element has the disadvantage that it does not always produce a lot of grunt.

After struggling with finding my ideal sound, (believe me I tried tons of strings) I decided to go on a “Precision pickup quest”.

First I tried Fender V-Mod element;
By default, the V-mod sounds a bit dull in the bass due to a design error, if you mirror the pickup parts (top part below and bottom part above) then the pickup sounds pretty good.

Out of pure curiosity and missing a small bit of something in the sound, i tried the Rebel Relic Vintage P pickup and Fender Pure Vintage 63 pickup.

The Rebel Relic Vintage P has a lot of mids and lacks in lows, it has a huge mid grunt. This element is ideal for 50s music, because many bass elements of that time had that character.

However, for contemporary use in a band you also have to have enough low tones and I missed that.

The Fender Pure Vintage 63 pickup has this. Compared to the Rebel Relic Vintage P, this pickup has slightly less middle, slightly less high, more low middle and more bass. Enough grunt. Perfect. Recommended in combination with Dunlop Nickelwoud or Dunlop Super Bright Nickelwound strings. I have been using Dunlop Super Bright for 4 months now and it sounds great with the Fender Pure Vintage 63.

My Fender Pickup quest and strings quest is over.
I'm happy.

Perfect :-)

Highly recommended

If you play a single-pickup Precision Bass , your pickup is the foundation of your whole sound. You need a good pickup, this is a great pickup.

True to the original and made with authentic materials, I found the ‘63 pickup to have the perfect tonal range with a versatile sound that could suit a multitude of styles and genres.

Installation is easy, I didn’t have to do any routing or drilling to fit this pickup to my Fender Bass. Once screwed in, there’s just two wires to solder in and you’re done.

The pickup is of a level of quality you’d expect from such a reputable brand, with sturdy mounting hardware included.

Also, the covers lift right off if the pickup isn’t screwed into the body of the bass. So if you want to use the pickup with your existing covers or a different set, you might be able to still use this pickup without it affecting your desired visual appearance for the bass.

V
Great P-Bass sound
Votanik 23.03.2020
My Squier CV 60s had some decent pick ups but they were a little bit at the treble side, adding to this the poplar body is also at the treble side as a tonewood, these Pure Vintage 63 pickups solve the brightness issues giving to the instrument a balanced fat sound. I also replaced all the electronics, saddles and file the fret edges and round the edge of the fret board, the bass now is an amazing instrument, plays and sounds like a thousands euros instrument.

The 4 star on the quality is because if the pickup screws... they are a little shorter than the Squier's stock ones, if you want to adjust the pickup height high these screws will not do the job and you will need to use the stock. Fender should pay more attention to the details.

EB
Precision geluid zoals het hoort ...
Edwin Bass 05.04.2021

Upgrade for my MIM Player series P
Tyler Crash 10.04.2021
Very nice pickup for a reasonable price. Although the MIM pickup wasn't bad at all, this is a definite upgrade. I also changed the electronics with CTS pots and a Switchcraft jack.

IB
Great pickup, classic sounds
Ivan Badger 09.09.2020
Really happy with this pickup. I'd done a fair bit of research before buying. On paper it seemed perfect for what I was looking for, but there were only one or two soundsamples available online. Glad I bought it. Strong output level, with great mids, not too much sub and smooth top end. It makes my P bass sound like my favourite vinyls from the 60's and 70's. Truly, they've got super close to the vintage sound with this pickup. Highly recommended for someone looking for a vintage period correct sounding and looking P bass pickup.

P
Old style Fender bass sound!
Phil3994 20.12.2015
I purchased these pickups from Thomann at a great price.

I do a fair amount of studio session work and I was looking for a deeper old style 60's tone.

I put these pickups in a fender custom shop PJ bass and they sound great!
Authentic 60's tone.. they are much more bassy in tone than standard fender pickups, which I liked a lot.

Good volume level output, as some old style pickups have to be cranked full up to bite!

Overall they are a great quality upgrade for any fender Pbass.

Perfect Fat P Sound
Sinest 11.10.2019
Fender got it right with this one.
Vintage correct looks with a grounded plate too and high quality components. Decent price too.
The sound is just right, very balanced and authoriative. Not too bright or boomy.
The real deal. If you want the classic Precision Bass sound you won't be disappointed!
