Boss NS-2 B-Stock

B-stock with full warrantySlight traces of use

Noise SuppressorThe BOSS NS-2 is a very effective noise gate, which was tailored to the needs of guitar and bass players. Unwanted hum, buzz and noise in short and longer pauses are completely suppressed - if desired only reduced. A switch toggles between reduction and mute while the original sound is not affected, if you have found the desired setting with the decay and threshold knobs.

Works fantastic!
Nils aus K., 04.12.2009
The fascinating thing about this pedal is that you have to praise it for not hearing it. The operation is very easy and the achieved effect enormously.

First of all, I would like to discuss the processing: As is generally known, all designers at BOSS are former employees of the US Army and used to design tanks. Joking aside: The pedal is heavy, massive and indestructible. The chance of damaging it accidentally goes to 0 and thus carefree daring is no problem.

The set-up goes smoothly: The Vintage Strat with humming and whistling single-coils goes into the input of the pedal. A colorful mix of effect pedals that like to make noise in the Einschleifweg, and the output goes to the amp. Here I have for a extreme test a single-coil strat, a BOSS HM-2 (a pedal from the 80s, which is preferred by Swedish Old - School Death Metal bands are used), a BOSS DS-1 Distortion Pedal and a BOSS BF-2 Flanger, all ripped open, used. If the NS-2 is not active, the loud hum quickly turns into an ear-piercing whistle, even if the guitar is still in the stand. If you turn the NS-2 on but a miracle happens: The only thing you have to do now is turn up the Threshold knob until the "Reduction" LED lights up. At this moment you make sure with awe and disbelief that the amp is switched on at all, because the only thing you hear is silence. Now, when you hit a power chord, you'll hear the unadulterated, infernal sound that you wanted. Then you put your hand on the strings for a moment and it's absolutely still again. Fascinating. The "Decay" knob is for adjusting the speed of the NS-2. This one can confidently leave on the left stop, because usually should also be quiet when it should be quiet. The "Mode" control has two positions: "Reduction" and "Mute". In the first case you switch between Noise-Gate and Bypass, in the second case between Noise-Gate and Mute. It could not be simpler.

All in all: single-coil drone belongs as much to the past as rushing and lumbering pedals. Absolute buy recommendation, each pedal head extends its board with an extremely useful pedal that he will never have to miss again.

Noises and whistles immediately gone

You can not go wrong with this pedal.
Using the knobs Threshold and Decay, you can set when and how fast the Noise Gate attacks and via the switch it can be completely deactivated.
The additionally offered mute function does not really open up to me - so the pedal simply turns off the signal, nothing more. No idea what that's good for, because that's what my tuner already does, thomann so I do not need this feature.

The real trick, but the built effect in the NS-2!
With a standard Noisegate, there were always two variants of the use for me: Either I hit the pedal at thomann the beginning of the chain and "gate" so that only the input signal with which the inherent noise of all other effects is not reduced, but the gate is very sensitive control.

Disadvantage: Especially with Higain sounds a high level of noise persists in the breaks between games. Or I put the device at the end of the chain, but with which I always have to adjust the threshold to the respective signal. Advantage: It remains quiet in game breaks, downside: The gate is difficult to control, individual tones can be cut off abruptly.

With the send / return function, this problem solves: All the rushing effects come into the loop and the gate mutes them even though it sits at the beginning of the signal chain. The pedal can thus provide the desired absolute silence while being controlled by the clean signal of the guitar. This works great in my opinion. Anyone who plays an amp in Zero mode instead of Pedal has the same function when connecting the send and return of its amp to the NS-2's loop.

At the speed of the device I can say: enough for me. For brutally tight metal riffs thomann it may be a bit too slow, the buyer might have to check carefully.
