An artist armed with an arsenal

Since their debut in 2016, Katana amps have become some of the most successful guitar amplifiers on the market. With a smart range of power options, compact dimensions, and a generous collection of built-in sounds and effects, they strike a perfect balance for today's players, offering professional sounds and effects in a portable format. After all, nobody wants to lug around more gear than necessary. Add to that their wallet-friendly price point, and it's easy to see why the Katana series continues to be such a hit. Now, Boss has introduced the Katana Artist Gen 3, a new and improved version of their pro-grade combo amp, complete with enhanced features and – just as importantly – still for an extremely attractive price.

The Katana for pros

Boss has refined its Tube Logic engine to deliver even more authentic amp tones. One standout addition is the new "Pushed" amp type, designed to emulate the raw, dynamic edge of a valve amp being driven hard. Like the other amp models, it's available in two voicings. The effects section remains split into five blocks, offering the usual high-quality selection. Delay times and modulation effects can be tapped in by hand or controlled via an external footswitch or pedalboard. Around the back, alongside the main speaker out, users can find inputs for expression pedals, AUX in, headphones, FX loop, Power Amp in (for setting up a stereo rig), XLR out, and USB for direct recording. New to Gen 3 is a slot for an optional Bluetooth adapter, which is ideal for wireless audio streaming or remote control via the Tone Studio app.

As flexible as it is powerful

The Katana series continues to grow in both sonic range and versatility. The third generation of the Katana Artist offers a broad spectrum of amp and effect combinations, ranging from acoustic presets and sparkling cleans to rich crunch and soaring modern leads. The full-range EQ makes it easy to shape the sound to whichever of a pro's many guitars is currently in use; and with adjustable output power, dedicated controls for resonance and presence, and three cab resonance settings (Vintage, Modern, Deep), the head can reproduce almost any sound a musician can dream of. One feature unique to the third-gen Artist amp (and the Katana Head) is the Bloom switch, which activates a special circuit with its own unique and independent sonic characteristics: The sound is given more presence and 'bite', while also providing more dynamic low-end response. That the Boss Katana Artist Gen 3 is capable of combining these two seemingly disparate functions – and that at the touch of a button – is simply further evidence of the professional standards that have been adhered to in its conception and construction.

About Boss

The Boss brand has been an important part of the Japanese Roland Corporation since the mid-1970s and has caused a sensation from its inception, especially with its compact effect pedals but also multi-effect units and other helpful tools for guitarists. The company's single effect pedals in particular are legendary and can be found in almost every guitarist's home. An incredible 15 million have been sold to date. With its Katana series, the manufacturer now also offers excellent amplifiers at a very interesting price point.

A versatile third-gen powerhouse

With its almost endless array of amp tones and effects, and the full 100 watts of output coming out of the custom 12" Waza speaker, the Boss Katana Artist Gen 3 has once again raised the bar for combo amps – professional musicians will know exactly what they have on their hands here. However, thanks to its flexibility and compact dimensions, it's as comfortable in a living room session as it is in rehearsal spaces or recording studios, with the USB output enabling direct, high-quality audio capture with spacious three-dimensional tones. And when it's time to take it on stage – the Artist's natural habitat, after all – this third-gen powerhouse will be ready, especially when paired with the right footswitches. To top all this off, the Boss Tone Studio app provides deep editing tools in a clean, intuitive interface, and now, with the optional Bluetooth adaptor, users can tweak their sound wirelessly from their smartphone or tablet.

Fantastic sound

With right patches, this is almost just as good as a tube amp, with added benefit of tone modeling, and no maintenance.

The community is rich with free patches that let you effortlessly model a tone of other amps like evh 5150 or tone of specific bands like metallica or even specific songs.

All in all, this is a stage ready amp

Enormissime !

Je voulais revendre mon ancien Artist, mais en essayant la connexion en stéréo des 2, j'ai adoré l'enveloppe sonore, du coup j'hésite.. ;

Aucun regret
