Arturia's most versatile audio interface

The Arturia AudioFuse Studio, for all its versatility and complexity, is an easy-to-use audio interface with 18 inputs and 20 outputs in total. The front panel presents users with an invitingly clear layout, with four channel strips and precise DiscretePRO preamps. For smooth recording sessions, there's a metering function, four pleasingly chunky gain knobs, and a large master control with dim, mute, and mono controls. Up to four instruments can be plugged into the AudioFuse Studio directly, including electric guitars and basses, making it practical for real-world on-stage setups, and there are also two headphone outputs for musicians - ideal when tracking, and even a built-in talkback mic. Alongside physical connections, the Arturia AudioFuse Studio can also send to monitors via Bluetooth, and on top of this versatility, the interface also delivers low latency and a range digital I/Os, for seamless integration into any studio environment.

The rear panel of the Arturia AudioFuse Studio is equipped with four line inputs, a stereo RCA connection (with a built-in phono preamp for vinyl sampling), four inserts, and a stereo AUX output - plus two stereo outs for a pair of monitor sets - and alongside these analogue connections, there are digital ADAT and S/PDIF connections for eight more ins and outs. External hard drives, MIDI controllers, and licence dongles can also be hooked right into the Studio via its three USB ports; the DAW runs via USB-C, with the cable included here. The package also ships with MIDI adapters that let artists connect any external gear via standard five-pin MIDI ports. Finally, the central connection is ready to send and receive word clock signals for perfect synchronisation.

High-grade recordings

As with so much Arturia gear, the AudioFuse Studio interface was built for professional musicians and producers: It captures signals at up to 24-bit and an impressive 196kHz, with an almost perfectly linear frequency response. Thanks to its high-grade DiscretePRO preamps, the interface has ultra-low self-noise, so even the tiniest details will come through crystal clear. Conversely, an input gain of up to 72dB provides plenty of headroom to drive even the quietest mics, with the VU meters giving reliable gain feedback for each of the four front input channels. Hit the Instrument mode and the AudioFuse Studio instantly adjusts impedance for electric guitars or basses, at the touch of a button. On top of all that, the unit is built tough – for years of dependable use.

With a software package for personalisation

New owners of an Arturia AudioFuse Studio have immediate, free-of-charge access to Arturia's AudioFuse Control Center software suite, which – among other things – lets users customise the front-panel controls of the interface to suit any workflow. It also lets producers set parameters and routing options such as sample rate, as well as manage the word clock's send and receive. The Control Center also provides access to the routing options for the digital I/O channels, as well as allowing users to define the talkback mic's routing destination and gain. Firmware updates are handled through the software too, making sure the AudioFuse Studio interface will always be up to date. And the program is not a massive memory hog, so the window can be resized freely for a clean, efficient workflow.

DiscretePRO Preamps

Arturia's DiscretePRO preamps are capable of capturing any input's finest nuances, thanks to their exceptionally low self-noise of -129 dBu EIN (Equivalent Input Noise) and an outstanding dynamic range of 118dB(A). Total harmonic distortion is minimal too, with a THD+N figure of -107dB(A), meaning virtually no audio colouration. For very quiet signals, the AudioFuse Studio has both line-level and mic-level gain modes. The preamps also boast an ultra-flat frequency response, varying by as little as 0.09dB between 20Hz and 20kHz: This precision ensures that the unique character of every microphone is captured perfectly.

Top quality and best I/O package

PROs
-Preamps are really good, quiet and have lots of gain, more than enough headroom, for reference 60% gain can drive a Beta58 loud enough.
-There's no other option on the market that have so many I/O and in a desktop interface size
-there are a lot of buttons and some of them are configurable, convenient for working quickly
-2 pair of Speaker out and 2 headphone out is great to have, though there is only 3 monitor mixes (good enough to me)
-Headphone out is powerful enough to drive K702 and HD650 at 50-70% volume
-Bluetooth is handy, very happy to have, but do not expect the quality anywhere close to the wired inputs
-USB cables that comes with it feels sturdy and looks cool.
-work smoothly on both my mac and PC without any issues at all
-Love the USB hub function, especially if you are a macbook user like me
CONS
-It can get a bit warm when in use but acceptable.
-Latency is not as good as the thunderbolt interfaces, it's USB 2.0 afterall

If you want an interface with 4 quality pres, 8 analog input, expandable, portable and do not need DSP, this is a very good option

I sold my Apollo Twin mkII for this and it’s definitely worth it!
Great monitoring capabilities with three presets available directly from the interface. (You have to set them up in a computer but after that they’re standalone)

I have two gripes with this interface.
One is that there are no mute switches, a thing I’ve grown accustomed to with my gear hooked up to a mixer in to the apollo interface. This way i could mute noisy stuff but still have it set up for quick recording.
This can be worked around by having cues set for muting but then you’ll lose cues for live recording with other musicians.
The second gripe is that you have to use the software for setting up the interface and make changes to it, for example, setting it up for re-amping. This is normal interface stuff which I had with my Apollo and my old Liquid Saffire but for me, about to make the change from mac to ipad recording, it’s annoying that i cant use an app for it. But for normal pc/mac users it’s no issue.

I love all the connections and they help a lot in building a hardware based, as little daw as possible, studio.

Great piece of equipment

This has really given me an all in one option to handle any possible scenario in a home studio. Want to use a guitar with an amp sim, sure. Have a friend with you and want to jam out with some midi instruments... two headphone outs. Have an old turntable and some vinyl to sample... phono in (also doubles as a rca line in). Want to quickly switch from speaker A to B to hear how your mix sounds on other speakers... press a button. Have a singer and a couple instruments to plug in... up to four. Basically, I can't imagine a scenario it cannot handle for a home studio and it has more features than I'll ever need. I've done all these things and it was wonderfully easy to work with. The only thing that ever tripped me up was learning that to use loopback, you must be using a sample rate of 44100 or 48000. Thank you, Arturia for making such a wonderful piece of equipment.

If you're on the fence And wondering about the price...

"Homesick Mac" 23.09.2020

It took a while to do the research and convince myself that this is worth so much money. Well, this show only that I never invested in a real-real interface. My most expensive was the Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL...
Thank you all other reviewers at Thomann's for the last ”nail in the coffin” of my decision. No, seriously, I was sure that this is going to be good when I ordered, but it's more than that. It's just great for my needs, and the sheer knowledge that I'll also be able to expand it through ADAT sends from my old interface if ever needed, awesome.
The preamps are really great, I could even run some truly lazy mics like the Shure SM7 that I borrowed for a test, as wll as my own large diafragm mics, one of which is another lazy one - Aston Origin, don't trust nobody who says it doesn't need extra gain...
Then my matched pair of Oktava MK-012 (which I also bought through Thomann) that also sounded great sith the pots at around 11:00 close miked and at 16:00 some 50cm away. Didn't get any significant extra noise there.
Just look at all the functions, Bluetooth included, I play my gramophone through it, reamping is a new field but worked great as soon as I understood what I needed to do.
It's small on my table and fits great just underneath the monitor, I drag it out closer when recording, I'm in heaven.
A friend who I recorded with noticed that the main volume knob was ”lazy”, meaning that he needed to make it several turns to incresse the volume significantly and yeah, it's true, but I call it precision...
