Edullinen mutta toimiva

Olen käyttänyt mikkiä trumpetin äänittämiseen pari kertaa, ja kyseessä on hintaisekseen yllättävän hyväsoundinen mikrofoni. Edullisuuden mukana tulee kuitenkin trumpetistin näkökulmasta muutama heikkous.

Ensinnäkin, mikin varsi tulee kiinnitysadapterin (Lucan System CC 200 MH) kanssa trumpetissa niin jyrkkään kulmaan, että varren joutuu kääntämään s-mutkalle, jotta mikin saa osoittamaan kelloa kohti. Tämä ei sinänsä vaikuta toiminnallisuuteen, mutta näyttää hieman hassulta. Vaihtoehto voisi olisi kiinnittää adapteri varren puoliväliin, jolloin mikki tulisi hyvin lähelle kelloa ja varren loppuosa jäisi rumasti törröttämään adapterin toiselle puolelle - näin en kuitenkaan itse tekisi.

Toisekseen, trumpetille tarkoitettu multi-holder-kiinnitysadapteri on suurikokoinen ja ei kovin tyylikäs, vaikka onkin muuten laadukkaan oloinen. Kyseinen adapteri toimii ruuvilla, eli sitä on vaikeampaa ja hitaampaa käyttää kuin clip-on-mekanismia.

Mikin soundi on mielestäni hintaan nähden hyvä ja taajuusvaste trumpetille sopiva. En ole testannut muita vastaavanmallisia torvimikkejä, eli en osaa verrata niihin. Mikki toimii harmon muten kanssa yllättävän hyvin, mutta muiden sordiinojen kanssa huonommin, erityisesti jos ne ovat isokokoisia (itse olen kokeillut TrumCor 2-piece cup mutea). Vaikka soundi on kelvollinen myös äänittäessä, mikin ensisijainen käyttötarkoitus on mielestäni keikat.

Yhteenveto: Hyväsoundinen ja edullinen trumpettimikki keikkakäyttöön, vähän iso, vähän kömpelö ja vähän ruma.

Still seeingif it fits my purposes

Bought this to amplify my electric archtop guitar in addition to the electric pickup sound. The microphone sounds great recorded, not like a really good large diaphragm microphone, but still very good and serviceable. However, when I try to plug into my acoustic amp, I get really intense high frequency feedback at really LOW volumes. So I’m not sure if I will be able to use it live, I have to try it in a gig situation. I’d say probably not because the volume I can get out of it before feedback is pretty much just a bit louder than the unplugged guitar.

Good mic for price but physically bigger than expected

I bought this mic as a better alternative to the Ovid series which I also have. (The Ovid is OK and sounds good on most instruments but the quality is lacking - I already broke one and I worry about the thin cable etc.) This mic is noticeably higher quality in the build with a proper replaceable balanced cable (Thoman sell the cable separately) using standard connectors and the mounting hardware is all metal and feels much more robust. From the frequency plot it also seems to have a wider response especially down into lower frequencies. However you should be aware that the physical size of the mic capsule is MUCH larger than the Ovid capsule. Almost twice the length for example. So it's fine on some instruments but looks kind of silly on a violin or flute. The reason it's larger is that the electronics are mounted with the capsule not in the XLR adapter. This is good as it means the signal going down the cable is both higher gain and also balanced to avoid interference, but it's bad because it makes the mic physically much larger. So be aware - if you value quality and robustness buy this mic, if you value discreteness and size, buy the Ovid RC.

Suitable for different instruments, really nice for my flute!

I've always used Dynamic Mics for the amplification of my flute, but I wanted something more flexible. It has definetely a nice quality, and with some more EQ Work even from the Mixer, or even better If you put some good Pre-Amp, this little mic from T.Bone will do de trick flawlessly.
