After 1000 gigs on stage, I have always been looking for the next number one mic to ring my voice out to the pub's audience. I started with akg's d5's, d7's, and the classic sm58. Akg's had the presence, but lacked in warmth. Sm58 was way too "uptight" for a baritone like me, when I hit the higher notes above High A. For years I turned to Condenser mic's like Akg's C900 emotion, which is still my number one for leading bigger Rockshows.
Still on acoustic gigs, condenser mic's seemed to take the stage too much from backup singers and even guitars. I found Sontronics solo for about half a year from now. It has the perfect balance between the uptight sound versus the presence of condenser mic's. Low register sounds nice with a rich high register. Audience has referred my highest screaming notes lately to Axl Rose, but that depends always on singer. Good Mic, really worth the 110¤ and more. Haven't tried it on intsruments, but regarding to the scale it can ring sounds, it must work well on those too!
And it's heavy! Quality comes with a mic that feels like an.... piece of man (or woman) made wood!
