For a long time I've been searching for "the perfect" string set for my -59 Otto Rubner-bass. I've gone from steel strings (e.g. Spiros, Bel Cantos) to different style of plastic strings (e.g. Pirazzi, Zyex, Temperas) and the bass always sounded good, but not great. I finally gathered my courage and tested gut strings on it – sounds fantastic, E&A was Pirazzis, D Götz and G from Pirastros Carlos Henriquez-set. Best overall set this far, but somehow the A lacked liveliness and the gap between plain gut D was huge, especially with the bow. Started to seek a new A-string and tested Lenzners silvered gut string and was blown away. Oh my GOD how good it sounds! Now I'm tempted to go all the way with Lenzners but because of the price, I'm going to settle to this set for a while. String settled down quite fast for being a gut string. Now the only hope is that it lasts for a long time in use of a professional musician, cannot wait the next gig!
