I bought this molded hard case for my Jackson Rhoads, since the guitar’s sharp corners can be quite brittle and prone to damage.
Pros:
Well balanced handle placement: The handle is perfectly positioned so that the case stays level when carried. You can even adjust the tilt by shifting your hand position. Useful for going downstairs, for instance, by gripping the handle further back to angle the front downward.
The case feels solid and durable. The latches are firm and feature small buttons underneath for easy operation. It includes two keys for the central locking latch.
Cons:
Large and bulky. While the size is expected for a V-style guitar, it’s still massive and quite thick.
Extremely heavy. I haven’t weighed it, but it feels like several kilograms. Carrying it even 100 meters tires out my forearm when the guitar is inside.
Odd accessory compartments. It has two internal compartments, but their design is questionable.
The first is a long, narrow one next to the neck slot. It works fine for straps, tuners, picks, and whammy bars.
The second is located beneath the guitar body, between the horns. Its shape is unusual (understandably, given its position), but what really limits its usefulness, is its shallow depth. Only 2–3 cm. I can barely fit a cable in there, and even then, it’s a tight squeeze and doesn’t stay in place well.
Conclusion:
Now looking back on it, I probably would have gone with the gig bag version. For my use (mainly transporting the guitar in a car), a gig bag would have provided enough protection and been much easier to carry.
