Affordable (mostly) functional balalaika
The balalaika sounds alright, but mine arrived with a dead fret. It always buzzes on the 2nd fret of the high A string. It seems the fret has been filed too low as compared to others. Funny that it arrived with a "Quality control" slip of paper with the "Checking for playing" stamped. This dead fret makes the balalaika unplayable until I get it re-fretted.
Another thing worth noting - this balalaika is made for steel strings - you can't put in two nylon strings for the e' strings, as the saddle and bridge holes do not fit a nylon without additional filing.
I am considering returning mine instead of re-fretting it since it is such a cheap instrument it may not be worth it to invest any money into making it playable.
