This is my first strat & I love it. For the past 9 years I've only played a single custom shop Gibson LP. This year I had to switch it to a standard 60's LP. Both amazing instruments. Really wanted a strat too for it's sound, tremolo & the low weight. The heavy Gibson can be a bit much after many hours of daily play.
I spent a lot of time choosing the right strat for me & came to find that ash body was what I wanted. It supposedly has a smoother attack & mellower tone than that of alder. A month after my purchase that sounds true to me. The guitar still has some nice bite to it. The cleans are beautiful & I love how it distorts too.
I thought that I would be 'learning how to play a strat' for awhile, but it really has just been magic since day one. (Been playing for 15+ years.) So effortless to play this. The neck is just so comfortable. Never played stainless steel frets before. Will always play them in the future, on strats anyways.
As I haven't tried another Ultra Luxe, I'm wondering if I got really lucky with this particular guitar, that's how great it plays, feels & sounds. It resonates beautifully when I play it unplugged. I can't even compare it to the AM PRO series strat that I tried before. It was a quick return. Didn't care for how it sounded & played.
It's worth mentioning that Thomann had set up my guitar to perfection & a month later I still haven't touched anything. Very nice, thanks Thomann! I use alot of tremolo, stays well in tune regardless.
As for the looks of this instrument, the photos on Thomann make it seem a bit weird. It's a really beautiful guitar in person & the painted headstock is stylish too. Ash bodies are generally way cooler than other woods. Very pleased with mine's too. With my guitar there are no quality control issues whatsoever.
Overall I'm beyond happy with my first strat. There's just one major flaw, which is that the ugly case is made in China. I think it's a disgrace especially considering that the guitar is made in the US. I hate the fact that my case comes from the land of a totalitarian nightmare. Regardless of how you view China, the case seems of ok quality. Will rate Thomann at 6/5.
