Durable strings
I bought a 4/4 violin from Thomann (beginners violin, pretty affordable) and the strings the violin came with broke almost instantly while I was tuning the violin the first time. Luckily I bought some spare strings and I switched to these and they have been very durable, and have been quite long lasting, I must say. I have not much experience of the violing strings soundwise as an amateur, but I have found nothing wrong with the string sounds. Maybe a professional violinist is able to hear differences better with other brands and string sets. The main reason I chose these is that I have been using D'Addario strings for electric and acoustic guitars for a long time now, and they are what I prefer, seems they make decent strings for violin also. So I recommend these absolutely.
edit: Having changed strings now more frequently and gathered more skills, my experience has of the violin strings have changed - They are still very ok strings, but mostly for a beginner violinist. Now I have used Tonicas & Dominants which are better regarding tone and feel.
