Eventide H90 Harmonizer Dark LTD

Ik heb diversen pedalen uitgeprobeerd waaronder ook boutique pedalen om een multifunctionele effectpedaal te kunnen vinden als aanvulling op mijn Boss GT1000Core en twee DVMark GH250 Tube amps.

Ik heb even nog getwijfeld tussen de Strymon Big Sky MX en de Eventide H90. Uiteindelijk is de keuze gevallen op de Eventide H90.

De H90 heeft een grotere selectie aan effect categorieën en is daarmee veelzijdiger dan de andere multi effecten die ik heb uitgeprobeerd. De uitgebreide routing mogelijkheden geven je ook net dat beetje extra aan mogelijkheden.

De bediening is even wennen. Via de app op de iPad gaat het net wat handiger omdat je meer overzicht hebt.

De geluidskwaliteit is zeer goed en in combinatie met de GT1000Core ervaring ik geen hoorbare geluidskwaliteit. Ook ervaar ik met deze combinatie geen extra latency. De algoritmen inspireren je tot het maken van bijzondere effecten en het maken van nieuwe muziek.

Tot nu toe, alleen maar blij met de aankoop. Ik heb er nu al veel zin om de effecten te tweaken.

Een bijkomende meevaller was de Black Friday prijs van € 849,00 voor deze mooie Limited Black Edition.

This is the distinguished black version of the glistening white H90 that has been reviewed a million times. Here are the most important things you should know.

1. The H90 is two complete stereo pedals in one unit. You can use this on two entirely different instruments or chain the two effects on one path (in parallel or series). There are even inserts. I know of no other pedal with configuration this flexible.

2. You get a ridiculous number of algorithms including delay and reverb, modulation, distortion, harmonizer, and resynthesis. Eventide recently added four granular algorithms as a free update. That's amazing aftermarket support! However you do NOT get EVERY sound from their rack mount gear, you do not get amp sims, and certain FX categories are weak (e.g. EQ).

3. You get quick access to six parameters for each algorithm but can dive into all the messy details if you wish, right on the surface of the unit. The nice screen makes it as easy as possible... but it's not easy! The companion software application might be a better avenue.

4. Eventide have created several different interface modes in an attempt to please all audiences. For studio engineers there is a Program Select mode that allows linear scrolling through 99 Programs in each of the four Lists. For musicians there is a Bank Select Mode that groups Programs by three, so that each foot switch selects a Program. Perform Mode allows you to toggle through various parameters. Yes, it's confusing and I can't help but believe there was a better way. Hence the star I deducted.

5. If you want to quickly get sounds for your instrument then this is NOT the unit to buy. If you are on a budget, this is NOT the unit to buy. If you have the time to learn Eventide's system and customise the sounds, then get the H90.

My favourite feature? The LED lights above the foot switches are actually buttons. For use on a desktop these are nicer on my fingers than the clicky switches.

Biggest limitation? If you use the inserts the total latency is 12ms which could be too long. Otherwise it is 4.5ms which should be fine.

Besides more algorithms, what would I like to see? Global LFOs that could be assigned as mod sources to the parameters.

Je ne reviendrai pas sur les caractéristiques techniques.

Concernant le rendu audio, c'est excellent.
Côté connectique, c'est parfait ; je n'aime pas les leds vertes à l'arrière, trop visible !
Côté '"éclairage", c'est trop éblouissant, même à niveau lumineux mini ; ça fait un peu sapin de Noël, pas très pro en concert ....

Côté ergonomie : là on voit clairement que cet appareil a été conçu par des ingé/designers, mais pas par des musiciens !
Oui, il y a une certaine logique dans les menus, mais pas une logique efficace et rapide lorsque l'on joue (ou entre deux chansons).
Les presets d'usine ont un niveau de sortie TRES variable ! attention à ne pas exploser votre enceinte lorsque vous balayerez les presets pour les découvrir.
Le midi est assez basique (sur mon firmware 1.12.5 - déc 2025) et il manque la possibilité d'indiquer le canal pour l'appareil destinataire du message : c'est une lacune presque rédhibitoire, qui oblige à rajouter un filtre mapping (de chez CME par exemple).
L'utilisation du soft d'édition est presque nécessaire (elle l'est au minimum pour la mise à jour et les sauvegardes) - Absent sur Android .... c'est pitoyable et mesquin !

Enfin, s'il existe une fonction Bluetooth, elle n'est compatible qu'avec un appareil Apple, pas Android, et ne permet pas de passer les informations Midi ; il faudra ajouter un dongle Widi Master par exemple.

Pour conclure, c'est un appareil avec une qualité audio excellent, mais des fonctions de paramétrage compliquées et incomplètes.

NB : l'appareil se fige régulièrement ; pas tous les jours, mais plusieurs fois par semaines. Pour l'instant, une seule fois max dans un concert.
