Taking it up a notch
Selmer's Series III tenor saxophones came onto the market in the late 1990s and quickly established themselves as classics. Countless saxophonists were won over by the model, which was ideally suited to modern styles in particular, thanks to its ease of playing and open projection. The Selmer Signature tenor sax is nothing less than a reimagining of that now-legendary model, reworked once again in numerous details, while still taking its tonal cues from its famous predecessor. The Signature keeps those qualities and takes things up a notch with a set of innovative improvements. As a result, the Selmer Signature tenor offers saxophonists the ideal basis for drawing on every last bit of their expressive range. This high-end model might even have the potential to surpass its predecessor's achievements.
Room-filling sound
The enlarged neck bore on the Selmer Signature tenor sax gives players unrivalled precision of intonation, across its entire range. At the same time, the adjustable concentric three-point neck receiver with its nickel silver tightening ring makes for an especially homogeneous sound, with greater tonal density. The octave mechanism runs on Teflon bearings, providing both the longevity players expect from a Selmer and a smooth, reliable action. As on any modern professional tenor, there's also a high F-sharp key, extending its range upwards. The ergonomically shaped left-hand toggle, meanwhile, makes the sax immensely comfortable to play. Leather pads with metal resonators contribute to the fullness of the sound and its projection. Last but not least, the adjustable thumb hook allows fine-tuning for an optimal hold.
Perfect at every level
The Selmer Signature tenor sax is flexible enough to show off its qualities at every level, from ambitious students through to seasoned saxophonists and professional players. It delivers the legendary Selmer sound reliably, with even greater precision and easier playability than the famous model it's based on. The instrument makers at the French workshop know exactly what they're doing – from over a century of experience. Players who choose this instrument also benefit from accessories that are as high in quality as they are well thought out. Included are a Selmer Concept mouthpiece complete with ligature and cap, a neck strap, swabs for the neck and body, and a microfibre cloth. All the better, then, that the screw-on bell-to-body brace makes regular maintenance and any repairs easier.
About Selmer
Henri Selmer Paris, founded in 1885 by Henri Selmer – a clarinettist and graduate of the Paris Conservatoire – is a legendary French manufacturer of wind instruments. Initially producing clarinet mouthpieces, the company soon expanded to full clarinets and gained global recognition for its craftsmanship and quality. Selmer became particularly renowned for its saxophones, which have been favoured by countless jazz musicians since the 1920s. Beyond saxophones and clarinets, Selmer also crafts trumpets, trombones, and horns, continually refining its instruments through collaborations with leading musicians and the use of premium materials.
Pure elegance
To suit personal taste, the Signature range is available in several finishes, including this one with a black lacquered brass body and gold-lacquered keys. Common to them all are the exclusive Art Deco-style engraving and key touches traditionally inlaid with genuine mother-of-pearl. The lines have also been slightly slimmed down, which benefits both the elegant looks and the projection of the tone. In this way, Selmer has not only kept the tonal strengths of its predecessor but improved on them, while bringing innovative saxophone-making techniques into the finished result. That makes the Selmer Signature tenor sax a masterpiece of the instrument maker's art, and nothing less than an extension of the player's musical creativity, skilful expression and emotional depth.
