Great soft shake. I usually strap this to my feet and use it with a cajon, they are a great combo together. However it lends well as a shaker by itself and can produce a wide dynamic range. I like the option of using one of the shaker to produce an even softer tone. The sound is incredibly smooth and pleasing especially for bossa nova.
The casing is made of plastic, it feels durable but does not have a luxury feel to it. It is designed for the working musician and is all about the sound. It feels balanced in the hands and isn't heavy to hold. Would be suitable for something starting hand percussion as it is great value. Great sounds small price, what more can you ask for?
I love this shaker for real, once you get your hands on it you will definitely not stop shaking it, I recorded the sounds for my music productions and the result is wow, you can use it live as well, you will definitely wow the crowds/audience with it for sure. Am loving it.
The shape of the chambers means that, held at different angles, you can get slightly softer or harder sounds at your preference. The shake can be washy or it can be driving and percussive. It also makes a pretty nice "hit" sound against (say) your leg. Using only one of the halves gives it a nice thin texture which can also be manipulated. Taking them apart is the easiest thing in the world, but it might take some practice to do it silently. I hear you can mix-and-match with the "loud" and "quiet" versions to get other interesting timbres. That could be interesting but this one is enough for me!
