very good

Arnaud123, 31.10.2015
this preamp is the best buy out there for a good tube sound without breaking the bank. You can do every thing you want (rock, blues, metal) with a realistic heavy tube sound.
I have owned many preamps and this one is the best.
realy a good choice. I use it with a rocktron velocity or my 44 magnum poweramp. well done Koch.

Wunderprima except for DI-Out in live use

Christoph2707, 09.08.2017
Workmanship: Robust. Approximately 20 gigs so far, in "moderately caring" handling definitely roadworthy.

Features: Class and above all PRAXISNAH equipped. Einschleifwege funze perfectly & the ability to supply (not too power-hungry analog) pedals on the Superlead with juice is really great. Another bonus: If necessary, the frequency correction can be bypassed via the monitor out (see below). Upstream pedals eats the superlead without complaint and reproduces their specific sound adequately (tested with Ace 30, OCD, Guv'nor & Soul Food). The built-in lead boost makes a TS to blow & "drain" virtually superfluous, if you can live without the TS-typical nasal centers (..or want ...).

Sound: Really great basic sound. Names and colors suggest a certain closeness to Marshall, and that is not 100% wrong: The sound character tends towards "generic old-school British", ie a conglomerate of Hiwatt / JTM 45 / 1959SL, without one of them To imitate amps 1: 1. JCM800 or AC30 tend to fail; for the first one lacks the saw, for the second on the "ringing" in the clean channel. Played through the power amp and speakers of a Laney VC 30, I can mimic the Laney's precursor almost identically. Favorite setting: Clean channel at full throttle. Crunch depending on the guitar already clearly, and is very useful for many Rhythmussachen. Volumepot back & zack, everything is clean. The only real drawback here: The clean channel is so loud at full control, that the lead channel (in master on max!) Significantly! is quieter, if you do not try Gain / Boost. In terms of level, this is not trivial if you want to directly control a mixer. Tone control is reasonably variable and has thank-it-enough susceptibility to virtually any application except for more extreme metal playing styles; for the latter is a bit part of Höchstbratstufe then probably downstairs not tight enough.

Frequency-corrected DI output: I generally do not think much of analog box simulations; the one built here is one of the better ones: Do not saw, but it's not unnaturally dull, it sounds plastic and tends to be fat. Basically usable, if you have no IRs at the start, with which direct recordings sound light years better than the built-in frequency correction. Live, the thing may not be usefully usable: The own FRFR monitor box may sound great, but if the club PA uses subwoofers, which (... for whatever reason ...) are cleared over 80 Hz, then buzzer the DI -Out of the Superlead a lot of bassmeat through the woofer, which you can not get into the fence via the sound control. Yeah, no theorycraft, I'm talking out of (unpleasant) experience. Not nice, especially when the soundman pauses or as an emergency measure, the guitar then just turned down so much, until they no longer close to the rest of the troupe. A rabid (switchable) bass cut below 100Hz or a generally much leaner tuning would significantly increase the value of use mMn. Zerrsounds helps to bring Gain back a long way and generally boost the distortion from the booster - the result is, as expected, a slimmer sound with a comparable degree of distortion. If, like me, you prefer to crunch the clean channel, then it helps nüscht: /.

Conclusion - many useful features, great basic sound, works well with other pedals, good workmanship & quite useful DI-Out for recording. If you're looking for a sound center / "Ampersatz" for a pedal board or just looking for a DI-Out pedal, the Superlead is definitely worth a try - but for safety reasons, I would recommend it as a safety precaution. / strongly recommend downstream or looped in EQ with bass cut as an additional option.
