The all-in-one practice amp

When you're just starting out in the world of the low end, it's important to have equipment that won't put any additional obstacles in your way. And when your career as a rockstar really starts taking off, you'll want useful features and foolproof operation – and that's exactly what the Harley Benton HB-40B bass combo offers. Combining the amp and speaker in a single enclosure makes it a both compact and practical companion for at-home practising, and its effective 3-band EQ allows for a wide range of sounds straight out of the box. If you want to play along to songs or a drum groove, simply connect your mobile phone to the Harley Benton HB-40B, and if your parents or neighbours complain, you can plug your headphones in and rock into the early hours and beyond. The whole package is available at a very low price, and if you want to cut down costs even more, you can get an attractive bundle that combines amp and instrument in one affordable package.

Harley Benton HB-40B Combo Amplifier for Electric Bass

Perfect for getting started

A combo – as in, short for combination – is a combination of an amplifier and a speaker in a single cabinet. In the case of the HB-40B, this cabinet is designed in such a way that it'll fit under every table and in every corner. At 12kg, it's easy to move, too, even for younger bass players. The 40W output, coupled with a 10" speaker, delivers a rich sound for playing at home or jamming with other musicians. In addition to the volume control, the internal 3-band EQ (bass, mid, treble) helps you find your own unique sound. The mid-band is parametric, so that the frequency can be adjusted continuously between 200Hz and 2kHz. In addition, a compressor can be activated at the touch of a button, which reduces undesirable level peaks and thus protects the speaker.

Make life easier

Learning to play an instrument is a lot of fun, but it can be a challenge as well – it's easy to feel overwhelmed at times. Nobody needs to burden themselves with further difficulties. That's why the focus of the Harley Benton HB-40B is on the features essential for beginners: The ones that are easy to use and truly make sense in practice. Even young musicians without much previous experience and technical knowledge will quickly find their way around, meaning they can start playing in no time. In addition, the HB-40B is small, light, and easy to transport by design: You can easily carry it from room to room or even take it on the road. In terms of ports, the Harley Benton HB-40B is equipped with an input for an external audio source and a headphone output.

About Harley Benton

Since 1998, the Harley Benton brand has been catering for the needs of countless guitarists and bassists. In addition to an extensive range of stringed instruments, Thomann's house brand also offers a wide choice of amplifiers, speakers, effect pedals, and other accessories. In total, the range includes over 1,500 products. Built by established names in the industry, all Harley Benton products combine quality and reliability at attractive and affordable prices. The continuous expansion of the range ensures that Harley Benton always provides new, exciting, and innovative products that keep players perfectly in tune with the musical world, day after day.

Playing until dawn

Music is generally associated with some noise; that's inherent to its nature. Unfortunately, not everyone values and appreciates this. Parents or siblings can sometimes knock on the door to complain, especially if it's late at night. And if anyone who shares a wall with their neighbours, for example in a rented flat, will face the same problem. To avoid trouble with parents or neighbours, the Harley Benton HB-40B can be plugged into headphones, so budding bassists can jam all night long, undisturbed: They can even connect a mobile phone (or CD player, MP3 player, etc.) to the combo via a cinch input and practice along with backing tracks or their favourite songs.

Beyond what i was expecting, by far!
DestoCorvus 14.08.2019
It might sound weird to some but yes i think this is an HB product that might not make money back for HB(Thomann). I was a bit hesitant buying this amp because most people in forums and my friends where saying that HB are not so good, guitars, basses, amps are cheap but they feel cheap also. This was my first HB product and i can say from my heart that this doesn't feel cheap at all.

I was looking for a practice amp mostly and probably play a bit with friends so i thought id give this amp a try and because its cheap if it was not up to it i'd probably get away with just playing alone at home and probably would buy a better amp in the future. Well it seems that this liitle beast will serve me for more than that.

Size and weight are ok and what it gives you for the price is really unexpected.
The 10" speaker gives deep enough lows that you could imagine its a 12" instead but its is not(I'm not sure if this ocurrs because of the wooden floor in my room). Equaliser gives you the normal Bass and Treble cut/boost knobs but you get an extra one for the mids. You get one mid frequency knob and one mid cut/boost knob so you can play a bit with it and have some very different results out of it. Volume wise, its LOUD, haven't used it above mid level because i think the wooden floor in my room will collapse. Gain knob starts distorting far after the midlle position more like at 7 so you get some extra clean volume out of it too.
The compressor engadges and cuts things out just fine and when it does a small blue led lights up, but i didn't see it boosting volume when i play low, but probably because i play with the volume a about 2 in the room.
Aux in and headphones jacks work just fine. I didn't use the DI yet, its the one thing i missed. Oh, also the top handle looks good too, its sturdy and retracts when you put the amp down.
The build quality is far above average. Nice cover surface, metal matte black corners, but no metal grill in the front to protect the speaker from kicks. Well its been a long time since i stopped kicking my amps!!!! so not a problem there.

Pros : Price, Sound, Volume, Features, Build quallity, It made me REALLY HAPPY!!!(this might not be a pro for those who haven't bought it yet, you have to buy it and then you'll be happy too)

Cons : My room is small and i have many neighbours that might be upset when i try to turn up the volume.

Overall a very good amp for the price and i trully believe that HB is not making much out of this amp. The sound is good, the build quality looks good, nothing bad to say for a 10" speaker amp with a big and wide sound.
Thanks a lot to the employes in Thomann and special thanks to Kyriaki who helped me with the mistake i made when ordering as it was my first order from you guys.

S
Very poor QC
SaWtHrOaT 23.08.2021
I bought this amp as part of a set, which included the B-550 5 string bass guitar. The bass was fine, but I expected that because it was the third HB bass I bought and every bass arrived in pretty good shape. The amp, however, was and is a horrible experience. First off, Thomann neglected to use decent packing material. That resulted in an amp that arrived pretty badly beaten up. The box at least. After unpacking, it turned out the amp wouldn't turn on. I have been in contact with customer support and they offered to replace it, free of charge. As it turned out, a fuse had come undone during transport. Luckily the fuse was still rolling around in the box so that problem was sorted rather quickly. The real problem, however, is the DI output that does not work. Frankly, that was the only true selling point for me, so basically the amp is just sitting there, collecting dust. As much as I like the HB instruments, my experience with their equipment is far from ideal and I will most definitely not recommend this amp to anyone.

It's cheap and if you keep your expectations realistic, you might be disappointed, it's not an amazing amp, but I would say it's good enough for practice

It's cheap and it does its job.
Obviously it's not powerful enough for a live situation but it's great for beginners.
