Adult full-board at home.

gusgustav, 14.08.2013
After the warmth of the Blackstar HT5 Head, I did not want to test a real full-tube for the living room / home studio, and one thing in advance: the part is better in the categories sound, dynamics, sensitivity on guitar and volume of the sounds , That the purchase price (of course, a different world) seems justified - but I have not played "the big ones" for comparison. Anyway, the blackstar goes in ...

The first channel ranges from clean to behind AC / DC or iron maiden, with boost then up to most classic metalsachen. With the Bridge PU (seymour duncan JB), the sound is really clean (split up to half 12) just before 10. For the living room in any case loud enough, who needs a lot of headroom here, probably does not buy any 20w amp ... It makes anyway really joy, the gain stages durchzutesten and with the Volumepoti of the guitar and various PU sets around. Here the amp offers a sensitive control range, with which I quickly found many good sounds. The number delicate / clean and hard / dirty folds with the part what the old one could not.

The Boost switch again increases the gain level - logically. But it also changes the "bite" of the Zerre, which is slightly more aggressive, the bass range is also raised.

With very low gain (and then very low volume), the lead channel starts in the crunch, but from lead gain at 9 o'clock you are then quickly where the clean with boost stopped. From about 10 clock the amp then offers almost no more dynamics (with full humbucker). Really fat rattle is reached at 11 to 1 o'clock, and Jaaaa, which is definitely (thrash-) metal-suitable sound. After that, only the compression increases. The sound control works already effective, mid-scooped sounds can crunch the box with on-board devices but not convincingly (for my ear).

The power soak does what he is supposed to do. Back to 5 watts is noticeably quieter, for room volume is the position 1 watts correct - here I mean tiny losses in the sound, but this is so little that it does not justify a point deduction. Why many people report difficulties with the use of Powersoaks, I can not understand the ironball in any case. Position off is complete silence, which makes sense with the

Headphone output: The sound is really modest and is at most ne emergency solution. The output is made for headphones 8-32 ohms, mine has however 55 ohms - is it?

To the hall I can say a lot, except that the regulator is placed on the back of the car. I prefer to use my Hallpedal with all setting possibilities, together with delay and chorus the effect loop works without any problems.

Recording out: with the frequency correction one can (hopefully) work: The signal must be edited in any case with EQ, but does not sound as trimmed as with the blackstar. My demonizer preamp can do this but much better.

Conclusion: The Amp offers a variety of sounds and sounds transparent, dynamic and bass - as I expect it from an adult full-tube amp. I cut the headphones output. Processing is top. With the equipment he gives a great solution for homerecording and living rooms, which are worth the high price. With the part I will definitely be happy in the long run.

Finally!

Amazing, 08.07.2013
First the manufacturers built large tube amplifiers with many skills, then came the small tube amplifiers with little skills. It took a long time for the manufacturers to understand that there are also musicians who want a small amplifier that is as flexible as a large one.

So I was very pleased to finally hold the Ironball in the hands. Portable, packable and powerful enough for all (!) Applications.

I like the four principles very well. It would be idle to philosophize about the sound for a long time. This is taste and everyone should test it.

It is worth mentioning that you can use the crunch channel (clean boost) super, to play completely clean and by the stroke a portion of distortion and bite. That's really fun.

In the lead channel, there are proper gain reserves available, whereby one must say that the amp never sounds sterile. It always remains rocky bold, with a proper shot of warmth.

The common equalizer does not bother you, you always find a good adjustment between the channels. For the fact that the EQ is passive, it can nevertheless noticeably intervene in the event, if one considers it necessary.

The Powerbrake is a great feature to operate the amp in moderate volume and to enjoy the benefit of end stage noise, because the 18 watts show where the frog has the curls. You have to say, however, that the Powerbrake not only makes the amp quieter but also takes the "breadth" somewhat.

You do not get the final stages quite free, but you lose some of the sound. All in all, however, a useful feature. The operating instructions should be read, however, in a sober condition, because the amplifier can be broken quickly if you use the Powerbrake wrong.

What is left? Ok, the second master volume is nice, you can use well and the built-in reverb also sounds quite good, not perfect, but significantly better than most spring sound systems.

What are negative things? You could have made the Amp, like the Tubemeister, a bit more idiot, so you do not have to worry about whether I have just connected everything right so I can "use" the Powerbrake. Furthermore, it would have been nice to make not only the Hall but also the effect path switchable. But these are trifles.

I use the Ironball with the Gigmaster E110 or as a stack with two E112v. Both
Variants harmonize well with the amp. As an effect, there is only the TC Flashback X4 ground. This is controlled by a Behringer FCB1010 via Midi, which also switches the channels at the same time. The small stage set is finished.

Price is perfect for me for the performance and flexibility.
