The LPD8 is back!

With the LPD8 MKII, AKAI presents a refreshed model of its compact MIDI controller that combines the familiar layout with a number of practical updates. It features eight velocity-sensitive MPC-style trigger pads with RGB backlighting, alongside eight redesigned rotary controls for hands-on parameter adjustments. Four buttons on the left side allow the pad and knob functions to be switched between Programme, Pad, Programme Change, and MIDI CC modes. The same side also houses the USB port, via which the controller is connected to a laptop or computer. Powered directly via the supplied USB cable, the AKAI Professional LPD8 MKII requires no additional power supply, keeping the setup simple and portable.

AKAI Professional LPD8 MKII

Small device, huge potential!

With its eight pads and eight rotary controls, the AKAI Professional LPD8 MKII provides a compact solution for triggering samples and loops, as well as adjusting parameters such as volume and panning. Combined with the included software bundle, which features AKAI's own MPC Beats DAW, expansion packs, and virtual instruments such as Hybrid 3 and MiniGrand, it offers a complete starting point for music production in a portable format. And if the factory settings do not provide the desired workflow, the controller can be customised in detail using the free software editor available from AKAI. Individual functions can be assigned according to personal preference, and up to four programme settings can be stored directly on the controller for quick access without requiring the editor.

Perfect for production and performance

Thanks to its compact dimensions and low weight of just 390 grams, the LPD8 MKII is well suited to mobile production sessions, live performances, and space-conscious studio setups. Despite its affordable price point, the controller features a robust plastic housing with AKAI's distinctive red and black finish, providing a solid feel and reliable handling during extended use. The rubber feet on the bottom also help keep the unit securely in place, ensuring consistent operation even during more demanding performance situations.

About AKAI Professional

Akai Professional has its origins in the long-established Japanese company Akai, founded in 1929, which initially manufactured electric motors, soon to be followed by high-quality tape recorders and hi-fi products. Since 1988, Akai has also become a household name like no other on the Hip-Hop scene. With the development of its first MIDI Production Centre (MPC for short), created in collaboration with Roger Linn, Akai wrote history by decisively influencing the sound of Hip-Hop and Electronic music, which it continues to do to this very day. Famous exponents of the MPC series include DJ Shadow, Eminem, and Kanye West. Today, Akai is also well known for its robust and versatile USB MIDI controllers, not least of which is the bulletproof APC range of Ableton controllers.

Turn the LPD8 into a secret weapon

With its included software package and broad DAW compatibility, the AKAI Professional LPD8 MKII is well suited both to those entering music production and as a practical addition to established setups. Thanks to its straightforward MIDI mapping, it integrates easily with popular DAWs such as Ableton and FL Studio, helping to streamline everyday workflows. The RGB pads provide quick access to samples, loops and clip playback, while the rotary controls allow parameters to be adjusted and automated directly from the controller - a hands-on approach that not only improves production efficiency but also simplifies the preparation and performance of live sets.
