Goeie maar korte kwaliteit

Over het algemeen ben ik geen fan van flatwound snaren.. maar deze verraste me best wel!
Zoals gewoonlijk met flatwoud snaren heb je weinig lawaai wanneer je met je vingers over de snaren heen glijdt, maar in tegenstelling tot de meeste flatwounds heb je niet het drogere jazz geluid! Deze snaren hebben nog best wel het heerlijke rock geluid van Iron Maiden.
Het enige nadeel van deze snaren is dat die topkwaliteit na ongeveer een weekje alweer weg is. Dan wordt het geluid wel weer doffer. Steve Harris zelf zet ook bij elk concert weer nieuwe snare op zijn basgitaar.

Als je meer in de jazz-richting speelt, kan ik deze snaren opzich aanraden (ookal kun je beter andere flats kopen), of als je echt Iron Maiden nummers wilt gaan spelen. Wil je altijd die topkwaliteit houden, raad ik je aan om meteen meerdere setjes te kopen.

Zelf was ik eerst van de roundwound, maar sinds ik deze snaren heb gebruikt wil ik deze houden! Ik ga ze dan ook absoluut vaker bestellen. Dikke aanrader!

first of all: the quality of the strings I got was top notch!

BUT:
Most people buying these strings are soundwise trying to get into Steve Harris territory. And there is your problem! While you can get the Harris feeling with it, the strings loose their brilliance very quick and start to sound dead. And with this I do not mean a nice flatwound oomph, but plane dead and liveless! Mr Harris seems to change these strings very quickly but I guess he gets a discount on these strings... ;-)
I also do not think that the more "traditional" flatwound user would like these strings. I know better alternatives...

Well these flatwounds from Rotosound are a custom gause for Steve Harris from Iron Maiden.

I use them in tune C so I like the bigger gause and the extra string tension they offer.Beware if you don't like big tension strings these may not be the correct choise for you.They are very stiff for standard tunings.

Out of the box they are very bright and after some hours of playing they have some stickiness to the touch.
Those "features" don't last so much and after a while (one week or so) they settle in.
Their sound after they settle in is mellow with clean highs without steping into roundwounds terittory.They have the "flatwound sound" but don't expect deep and boomy lows.They are very balanced,fairly hi-fi with a nice quality to the low mid and midrange imo.

The touch is smooth even though a bit rough for flatwound but believe me this won't be a problem.They are still smooth and very easy to play!
And let me tell you they last forever.I used them 7 years and they were going strong.

Only downside I can think of is that they are overpriced.
If they were cheaper I would still use them but 40 euros are too much compared to the Fender flats offerings for example which cost half of that.
Still a very good product and recommended!

They are pricey

They might be called "Steve Harris" but really they are a re-brand of the Rotosound Jazz 77 heavy gauge. They have classic 70s British sound when put on a p-bass.
