Retro? Zeitlos!

Der hervorragende Klang in Verbindung mit der intuitiven Bedienbarkeit inspiriert mich täglich! Nicht von den - teilweise sehr "retro" klingenden Presets irritieren lassen ;-) meines Erachtens ist der Prophet 10 universell einsetzbar. Filter und Hüllkurven sind so gut abgestimmt, dass der Klang ein einziger "sweet spot" ist! Wem das Ganze zu teuer ist: Mit u-re Repro gibt es eine sehr gelungene Emulation, die zu 90 % an den Sound der Hardware rankommt. Repro hat sogar noch etwas mehr "Druck" - jedoch klingt die Hardware - wie so oft - das entscheidende Stück lebendiger, organischer und musikalischer. Zudem natürlich die direkte haptische Kontrolle der Klangformung, was mir auch sehr wichtig ist. Bei Plugins ist man schnell dabei, nur ewig Presets durchzu"steppen". Kritikpunkte: Kein synchronisierbarer LFO. Hin und wieder muss man auch im Betrieb nachstimmen - über die automatische Tune-Funktion. Wenn man den Prophet mit unkontrollierten MIDI-Daten vom Sequenzer aus "flutet" kann sich der Sound komplett verstellen, hier evtl. MIDI-Filter einsetzen. Zudem muss man - anders als bei Moog - den SoundEditor/Bank Manager extra dazu kaufen... Fazit: Best Buy

Der P5/10 hat wenig Features, die Bedienung ist alles andere als ideal, und sogar die Verarbeitung ist beim Modul nicht wirklich top. Da bin ich von Sequential durchaus Besseres gewohnt: Bessere Drehregler, eine durchdachte Menüführung über kleine, aber clever gemachte LCD-Screens, und klangliche Features bis zum Abwinken. Alles ganz klar zu sehen vor allem beim Pro3, aber auch beim Rev2, Prophet-6 und teilweise beim OB-6.
Und dann ist der P5/10 auch noch Mono?!?

Ja. Und trotzdem gebe ich mit ganzem Herzen eine Gesamtbewertung von 5 Sternen ab. Das liegt an der Kategorie "Sound". Der P10 ist quasi das Gegenstück z.B. zum Waldorf Iridium, der alles auffährt, was heute technisch möglich ist, aber leider nur mittelmäßig klingt.

Warum kauft man sich einen Hardware-Synth? Vermutlich, um die letzten 10% des klanglich Möglichen herauszukitzeln gegenüber den VSTis, um mehr direktes Feedback zu haben und das war's auch schon. Daher zählt meiner Meinung nach (fast) allein der Klang. Und genau der ist beim P5/10 schlicht überwältigend; das geht nicht besser, und ging auch nur selten.

Wer sich da über Mono beschwert, sollte eventuell die Anschaffung eines Effektplugins in Erwägung ziehen oder einen Vintage-Poly kaufen mit all seinen Problemen. Ja, wäre noch cooler gewesen, wenn man die Stimmen hätte pannen können, geschenkt. Wir haben alle DAWs, und mit denen kann man auch mehrfach aufnehmen :)

Great sound! .. but some things to consider.

First of all, the sound is really, REALLY lovely. There is a small inconsistency when turning the knobs, some are more sticky, some are more loose. This does not bother me, but as this is a new high end unit, I just wanted to comment on it. The unit runs pretty hot and I´m quite sure it would´ve left a mark on my wooden table over time (the unit gets very hot, especially from under). So, I placed the synth to a stand with a metal tray (K&M 18819) and now everything is fine. The metal tray acts a bit like a heat sink, so the synth runs cooler as before.

My biggest gripe is the tune function (that autotunes all the parameters like pitch). Sometimes after tuning the sound gets distorted internally and the only way to get over this is trying to re-tune the unit or turn the unit off for some time. Then the sound is normal again. I quess it has something to do with heat? Especially when I had the unit on my wooden table the synth got distorted almost every time I tuned it. After placing the synth to a metal tray, I´ve had the distortion come up only once in the last couple of days. Going thru the forums, it seems I am not alone with this as some people are having similar issues. I tried resetting global parameters, resetting the tuning (heat) table, different cables and so on, but nothing seemed to have any effect on the issue. But as said, the synth has been stable (except that one incident) for the last couple of days, so lets see.

In conclusion, expect great sound, but possible heat related issues.

I have OS 2.0 installed (that came with the unit.).

Einziger Wermutstropfen:
Natürlich kann man kein AT- und Vel-Response einstellen. Das muss man am Controller machen. Da muss man aber auch einen haben, der das kann.
