EarthQuaker Devices Arpanoid V2

Tl;dr : très bonne fabrication, bon son, mais utilisation limitée car il n'y a pas de tap tempo ce qui rend l'utilisation en live presque impossible

Je l'avais à la base acheté pour faire des chansons à la Muse, ce qu'elle fait bien... en studio seulement. Le manque de tap tempo se fait vraiment ressentir lorsqu'il s'agit de re-régler la pédale pour différentes chansons

Sinon la pédale est solide et les potards sont un délice à régler

Ich habe den Arpanoid seit ein paar Wochen in der Effektkette. Zunächst wollte ich ihn zurück schicken, da ich Anfangs der Meinung war, dass sich der sehr spezielle Sound nur ganz selten einsetzten lässt. Allerdings ließen mich die im Handumdrehen entworfenen Tonfolgen einfach nicht mehr los. Nach ein paar intensiven Stunden Schrauberei und der Neujustierung meines Pedalboards (Der Arpanoid befand sich zunächst direkt hinter dem Tuner auf Platz zwei, mittlerweile habe ich ein analoges Delay vor dem Apreggiator und ein digitales dahinter geklemmt sowie den Afterneath von Erathquaker Devices + Analog Reverb !booom!) kann ich einfach nicht mehr die Finger von dem kleinen, glitzernden Zauberkasten lassen.
Wie alle Tretminen von E.D. kommt der Arpanoid in top designter Verpackung + sinnlosem Jutebeutel + super cooler Sticker, nebst Handbuch und seitenweise Eigenwerbung, für zugegebener Maßen ein Haufen weiterer KILLAEFFEKTE. Netzteil, Kabel oder 9V Batterie fehlen. Schon die erste Berührung mit dem perfekt verarbeiteten Bodeneffekt macht dem andächtig gerührten Konsumenten klar: "Ich bin ein robustes Stück Hochtechnologie, das nur darauf wartet, von Dir auf den Bühnen der Welt zum Klingen gebracht zu werden." Die relativ intuitive Bedienung ermöglicht die Produktion akkordeigener, respektive harmonisch verwandter Tonfolgen. Dabei lassen sich Tongeschlecht, Intervalle sowie Geschwindigkeit in 8 verschiedenen Modi einstellen. Das ganze ist dann irgendwo im Spannungsfeld Synthie-Pop-Arcarde-Game-Sound und Avantgarde-Klangkunst-Collage anzusiedeln. Für mein Hörempfinden lässt sich der Arpanoid am Besten in Verbindung mit ordentlich Reverb + Delay und mit einem E-bow spielen, aber das ist wohl Geschmacksache. Davon abgesehen reichert die Wundermaschine das vorhandene Tonmaterial, je nach Einstellung, mit additiven Tonfolgen an. Ganz egal ob es sich um Einzeltöne oder um komplexe Akkorde handelt.
Was ich so überhaupt nicht verstehe ist, dass es keinen Eingang für ein Expressionspedal gibt! Ein etwas liebloser Umstand wie ich finde! Dafür lässt sich der Effekt neben dem normalen Betriebsmodus nur sequenziell über temporäres gedrückt halten des Fußschalters benutzen.

Fazit:
Der Arpanoid von Earthquaker-Devices ist ein abgefahrenes Klangwunder! Der Arpeggio-Generator-Effekt ist alles Andere als ein EINSONGPUSHER ala Rainbowmaschine oÄ.. Vielleicht ist der Arpanoid auch nicht ganz das Richtige für den täglichen Hausgebrauch einer Bluesrockband, aber es gibt ja noch experimentellere Möglichkeiten sich musikalisch auszudrücken.

This seems like a very esoteric single use pedal: one that produces whizzy swirlies that sort of fit with the overall vibe of your song.
It is way more than that- after only a week, it is probably one of the three pedals I would never remove from my board.
Here are some uses:

1. CLEAN BOOST. An amazingly crisp clean boost. Because you can adjust the LEVEL of the dry signal, you can dial back all the other effects and have a clean boost. At the price, it is an expensive boost, but not outta this world expensive. Seriously, I would buy it just for that (it compares well to my Keeley Katana, just it is crisper, and to the Wampler Tumnus, which colors the tone a bit more).
2. BASS SIMULATOR or OCTAVER. It is easy to dial in a great bass doubling effect - mix wet and dry for a Hendrixy thing, or dial back the dry signal for a very responsive bass tone. No need for a pitch shifter if your only use case is to get some bass tones
3. DOUBLE TRACKER: You can experiment here, but a number of the settings give a nice double track feel with an octave up that blends really nicely
4. DELAY-y/REVERB-y thing: OK, not so precise, and I wouldn’t say you would want to ditch a favorite delay or reverb for this. But if you had to grab one pedal, this could do a nice job, or complement other reverbs
5. ARPEGGIATOR: Finally - and this is such a broad term. You can have it produce a wash of notes, or a slow sequence. A favorite of mine is running it after an EhX organ simulator and getting washed out organ tones - awesome. You can also dial back the mix and get an ambient reverby feel that has a „huh what was that?“ effect if you pay close attention to the spatter of additional notes. Cool! The other nifty feature here is that the arpeggiation responds to your playing. So if you sustain a note, you will get a lot of arpeggiation that sort of decays. If you pick a note then mute it, the arpeggio will stop. So you can use your playing dynamics as an expression pedal of sorts.

There are many more creative uses - I just found that putting a limited arpeggiation with a LOT of distortion produces sustained notes that are just a bit more interesting and dynamic. I am sure people more creative than I have already figured out super cool stuff.

In summary, this pedal is not just WEIRD or INTERESTING or FUN - it is with the first four functions INCREDIBLY VERSATILE AND USEFUL. Get one!!
