Fender Squier Bass VI

E' la prima volta che compro una chitarra elettrica on line per cui ritengo possibile che lo strumento sia arrivato privo di set up , na ho seguito il consiglio di altri utenti e ho portato la chitarra bass VI da un buon liutaio di mestiere che ha provveduto nello specifico a modificare l'inclinazione del manico per dare maggior contrasto sul ponte delle corde, che comunque fa un po di rumore, a limare l'alloggiamento dell corde sul capotasto oltre alla regolazione del truss rod e dell'action. Detto questo 50 euro in più spesi bene diversamente mi sarei messo le mani nei capelli in quanto il bass VI aveva problemi di accordatura e le corde SI e MI praticamente si erano spalmate sul manico. Ora veniamo anche al bello , il Bass VI non si suona come una chitarra , non si suona come un basso , finalmente un basso dove non puoi slappare, e non è nemmeno un basso a sei corde ma suona come un basso e anche come una chitarra. Insomma uno strumento particolare che è piaciuto molto , oltre che a me dato che la prima volta lo avevo visto nel 1966 e lo avevo sempre desiderato, anche ai miei amici musicisti in quanto si possono tirar fuori cose particolari. Con gli effetti per ora ho testato solo il nano pog e mi pare che vada alla grande. Non è escluso che possa pensare ad un upgrade con Il Fender Mexican Bass VI tuttavia devo dire che il selettore dei magneti con gli interruttori, almeno per questo tipo di strumento, non mi dispiace e lo preferisco al selettore con la levetta montato sul Fender Mexican Bass VI. Ciao

Unique and Versatile.

It's been almost 2 weeks that I'm playing this unique bass with my band.
It definitely is a one-of-a-kind instrument. It's basically a guitar on a octave lower OR a bass with 6 strings.
The pick up switches allow you to experiment with different kind of combinations. It can be Neck-Middle-Bridge, Neck solo, Middle solo, Bridge solo, Neck+middle, neck+bridge or middle+bridge.
It also has a bass strangle switch which cuts away the lower frequencies.
Quality of neck is actually really good, and apparently they fixed some issues that the Vintage Modified version had (first of all the tuning instability and bridge too loose).
They tried to fix it, but didn't accomplish it totally.
Strings (especially the Lowest E) are not the right ones. The lower E is too loose and causes too many annoying buzzes. So I swapped it with a .95 E and now it's tight and plays well.
They actually improved the bridge, even though it still wobbles a little tiny bit but you definitely can bear it.

Pick ups sound really good. Overall, built quality is very good.
Thomann delivered the pack in a week and a half which is impressive since we are living in pandemic times.

Recommended if you KNOW what to do with it.
Don't treat it like a common bass or just a modified guitar.
Recommended to those who like to experiment with new sounds and tones.

Great little curiousity and worth the price.

I had been playing guitar for over two decades, and bass for about a decade before I bought this item. Inspired, as I'm sure so many others were, seeing its big sister in the Beatles Get Back documentary by Peter Jackson.

This is a fun little toy. I won't deny it takes some getting used to. It's not a guitar, nor is it a bass. The best I could describe the feeling is like playing a guitar with bass strings, but even that is not fully accurate. I always play bass with my fingers, never a pick, and so the closeness of the strings means that you kind of have to adapt your playing a little bit.

Also, you can play chords on it, but again, it feels a little weird as a guitarist due to the thicker strings.

Where it really comes in to it's own is when you hybridise your playing style. I like to play it as a bass but with a pick at the lower end, then do chords up past the 12th fret. It really sounds great at both once you get used to the feel. Soloing feels lovely on it too.

The sound is quite good, there is a nice bit of versatility between the three pickups.

The tuning can feel a little finnicky and I did have to do a good bit of setting up of the bridge when it arrived as the intonation was way off. This was pretty straightforward however.

Overall this is a great instrument for the price, and I'm very happy that I bought one.
