Zultan's most affordable cymbal series is called Aja – pronounced "Asia" – and, as the name suggests, is made in China. But unlike the machine-made B8 bronze cymbals offered in the same price range by their competitors, the Ajas are cast from high-quality B20 bronze and finished by hand. The Aja Standard Set comprises the three classic cymbal types found in every setup: crash, ride, and hi-hat. The Aja range also includes many individual cymbals in various sizes and designs, as well as other preconfigured sets.
In China, people have been familiar with the manual production of gongs and cymbals for centuries, so a lot of experience has gone into making the Aja series. 80 percent copper and 20 percent tin, B20 for short, is the bronze alloy that has long been known to be the magic formula for high-quality, melodious cymbals. As the Aja cymbals are finished by hand, each one is unique, which means that slight sound variations among individual cymbals of the same model are normal. The Aja Standard Set is made up of a 14" hi-hat, a 16" crash, and a 20" ride, as well as a deluxe cymbal bag. The Aja cymbals all share a loud, cutting sound and piercing projection, with a slightly "trashy" character that's gritty and complex.
High-quality cymbals are often unaffordable for beginners: Drummers on a budget will love the fact that Zultan Aja cymbals offer a lot of sound for not a lot of money. And it won't matter if they're playing Rock, Alternative, Grunge, Pop, or Funk – the all-round musicality and voluminous projection of the cymbals in the Zultan Standard Set work in almost every setting. This also means that this bundle might be just the thing more advanced drummers are looking for to round off a new set-up – or refresh an existing one.
To provide traditional craftsmanship at a fair price has been the guiding principle of Zultan ever since it was founded in 2000. The firm’s practice of selling directly to the end customer makes it possible to offer very customer-friendly prices. Nevertheless, the production process for Zultan’s trademark cymbals, which are made mainly in Turkey, is of the highest quality, a fact which has ensured they have also been a fixture in the Thomann range since 2011. The nearly 250 Zultan products cover several cymbal series, catering for all sectors of the music market. Zultan also offers accessories such as bags and drumsticks. Thanks to the use of high-quality materials and manufacturing expertise, Zultan really does offer uncompromising quality at a reasonable price.
Anyone who's serious about drumming, be they a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, knows that the sound of their cymbals is just as important as all the great features – and the cool look! – of their newly acquired drums. Happily, the Ajas sound so good that even experienced drummers will get years of pleasure playing them, and at a price for a full set of cymbals that many drummers would pay for a single crash or ride. Of course, the Aja series is so diverse that effects like china and splash cymbals, or further crashes – all in a range of sizes – can be added later to meet players' changing demands.
