Building on the success of the US-1800, the US-16x08 is a compact USB audio/MIDI interface designed for recording studios and live performances. Its name reflects its 16 inputs and eight outputs: The 16 inputs include eight XLR and two jack inputs on the front panel, in addition to six additional jack inputs on the back. The eight outputs are all located on the rear, with level controls for Line Out 1 and 2 conveniently placed on the front. A standout feature is the integrated DSP, which enables mixing, routing, low-latency processing, and onboard effects, including a compressor and EQ for each channel. Additionally, the Tascam US-16x08 can serve as a standalone mic preamp, expanding an existing mixer with high-quality microphone inputs. The recording bundle includes the t.bone SC 400 large-diaphragm condenser microphone, a pair of circumaural headphones, and a connecting cable.

Proven quality

The US-16x08 features a 48V phantom power supply for connecting high-quality studio microphones – such as the t.bone SC 400 included in this bundle – to its low-noise preamps, with independent switching for inputs 1–4 and 5–8. The front panel includes a switch for inputs 9 and 10 to select between line-level and Hi-Z signals, making them well-suited for direct guitar or bass recording. Supporting up to 96kHz at 24-bit resolution, the interface delivers high-quality audio capture. With the firmware version 2.1, a loopback function enables the computer's audio signal to be mixed into the stereo output, making it especially useful for content creators and streamers.

Rack-compatible

The Tascam US-16x08 is designed for ambitious project studios and live recordings. Its compact design and sturdy metal housing also make it a solid choice for on-the-go producers using laptops or iOS devices, though it requires an external power supply rather than USB power. The interface can be mounted in a 19" rack (1U) using the included installation kit. However, rack-mounting means losing the visually appealing honeycomb side panels that also serve as an angled desktop stand to allow for better access to the unit's controls. Including as it does both microphone and headphones, this bundle is an excellent choice for beginners to home recording. Paired with the interface, it serves as a solid foundation for a home studio setup that can expand over time.
