A false economy

It is cheap. It plays about as well as the mouthpiece that came with my Vito.
It is by no means the worst mouthpiece out there, but it is the worst on Thomann.

The piece I received had a non-flat, convex table (where the reed goes), and even after lapping it flat, it doesn't play well. It wasn't defective, that's just what you get here. It arrived unboxed with a super cheap ligature and unbranded reed fitted, which had shifted in transit and dented the side rail. The lig is small, of a cheap alloy and one screw broke when I tried it on another mouthpiece. The cap is okay but with a round end so it won't stand up. The reed it came with is garbage but note it is /not a Startone reed/ - those are actually way better.

The mouthpiece and reed are the most critical component of the sax. Your time is worth more than any saving here. Save the money toward a better mouthpiece. If a known standard like the Yamaha 4C costs £34 at the time of writing, then imagine saving £26 divided by more than 50 hours you practice in 6 months. (If you really don't have 50 hours you need to rethink your practice). You could be held back for months in your development because you wanted to save a few pennies each hour. Worse, if buying for someone else, it could hold them back in their growth. Imagine the wasted value of lessons, or the recipient just giving up because of this. Your time is worth more. Their time is worth more.

It looks a lot like a Yamaha 4C, with similar tip opening, baffle and facing curve, but with a small machining mark in the chin area. The side rails are similar but the chamber is far larger and rounder. It feels unstable to play, the response is unpredictable. It feels like a waste of time to practice on it compared to my other very modest mouthpieces.

The only person who should buy this will lap the table themselves and experiment with modifying it. That is me, and I'm content with it as a project. Do not give it to someone else - they might believe this is what saxophone is really like. If you have a horn you are selling/gifting/donating, and don't want to spend the money - be honest and just give it without a mouthpiece. Let the buyer figure that out.

Als Anfänger kann ich nicht viel darüber schreiben. Für mich ist der Preis erstmal ausschlaggebend gewesen. Kann aber auch nichts negatives sagen. Gut verarbeitet, kein stinkendes Plastik, angenehm Hautfreundlich. Würde ich jederzeit wieder kaufen.
