Especially when you're going to play on unknown drums.
I don't take along bigger ones than 14", because I can put them on my snare and they're usable on the bigger drums.
Bigger rings are a pain to transport to a gig, or anywhere for that matter.

When buying these again I will also get the 2" size as that is needed for some of my toms in order to get the right effect.
