Yamaha Tenor Sax 5CM

I'm very pleased with this mouthpiece. I upgraded from a plastic 4c and it's made a lot of difference. The tip is neater, the tone is sweeter. The plastic 4c was difficult because the aperture was so small that when applying any decent volume of air the reed would lock shut against the mouthpiece. Now, with the 5CM, that doesn't happen. It is more sensitive so you have to "aim" more precisely with you core, and it's taken some adaptation of my embouchure to be able to confidently hit the lower notes. Even a small change in embouchure affects the tone (which is another reason I wanted it). I've only been playing 3 months and, as you can imagine, trying to think about my fingering, embouchure and breath control all at once yields the occasional wild result, but it feels like a tool that demands a better technique that the 4C, and that is what I wanted and a good thing for a student to face. The mouthpiece is beautifully finished, the upper registers sound like they are coming from the same saxophone and I can't recommend it highly enough for the student who is willing to face it's challenges.

Vor langer Zeit habe ich mich verrückt gemacht, Mundstücke zu finden, die gut klingen, gut verarbeitet sind und ein großes Spektrum haben. Irgendwann hatte ich mir ein Yamaha Custom Saxophon zugelegt und wurde beim Ausprobieren des Mundstückes aufmerksam. Inzwischen spiele ich dieses Mundstück auch auf dem Tenor und bin lange schon begeistert. Rockband, Musical Band, Jazz, Tanzmusik, auch Blasmucke. Alles geht damit.
Wie bei Kautschuk üblich, hält so ein Mundstück leider keine Ewigkeit. Nach 10 Jahren sollte man bei der Fehlersuche das Augenmerk auch mal auf das Mundstück legen. Da die Serienstreuung (bei mir) sehr gering ist, kann man bedenkenlos bestellen. Nach vielen Tests spiele ich auf den Custom Mundstücken inzwischen Forestone Blätter, Anfangs Standard, inzwischen Black Bamboo. Nicht laut sagen: bei anderen Herstellern zahlt mehr für weniger ;)
