Seymour Duncan SP90-3B Black

After buying my Epiphone LP Special P90, I decided to do a pick-up upgrade because the Epiphone PUP's were a bit muddy. A friend of mine recommended the the Seymour Duncan SP90's, but which ones? After researching the Duncan Website I decided on the SP90-3B Custom at the Bridge position and the "Vintage" SP90-1N at the neck (other review) for maximum flexibility.

The fitting of the pickup in my Epiphone was absolutely no problem, just had to do a bit of re-wiring and, so if you are handy with a soldering-iron you should have no trouble at all.

The sound of my Epiphone at the Bridge is pretty compressed with a lot of power! (rated at extreme output by Duncan), the sound spectrum goes from almost twangy to full blown metal and really smokes the stock Epiphone PUP's, not the slightest hint of muddiness and really open:-). If you need a good "High Powered" P90 Upgrade then this PUP is for you.

Dieser pickup ist bei mir in einer Harley Benton JA baritone verbaut um das Instrument etwas interessanter zu machen... Abgesehen von kosmetischen Upgrades wurde auch der bridge pickup getauscht...
Der custom 3 p90 arbeitet mit einem Keramik Magneten und besticht daher durch einen hellen, kantigen Sound und das war meiner Ansicht nach sehr passend für die tiefe Stimmung einer 30inch baritone...
Der Sound ist geradezu brachial und wenn die JA nich so dick am Hals wäre würde ich das Teil viel öfter spielen...
Sicherlich macht der pickup auch in jeder anderen Gitarre eine Klasse Figur, nur muss man sich im Klaren sein dass man bei p90's einen höheren noisefloor tolerieren muss...
Mit Hilfe eines guten noisegates jedoch konnte ich eine Tonne an Verzerrung auf den pickup legen ohne in ein unkontrolliertes feedback zu gehen...
Die palm mutes sind echt dröhnend finster aber ihr könnt natürlich auch sanftere Klänge anschlagen auch wenn es vielleicht etwas spitz in den Höhen werden könnte...
Verarbeitung ist seymour duncan typisch hervorragend und der Einbau war auch nicht schwer...
Aber leider ebenso typisch ist der etwas hohe Preis, aber bisher wurde ich noch nie von S.D. enttäuscht...
Wer also nen p90 mit wumms sucht wird hier fündig...
