Great mics
zorglub76 25.08.2020
First of all, I'm a noob in sound engineering. I wanted to get a pickup for my acoustic guitar, but hated the sound of any that I checked. Thus I decided to go for the instrumental mic, and LCT040 are perfect for what I needed.

The sound sounds.... pro! :) It records so many details in so much clarity. The noise is almost inexistent. I'm able to get a very loud signal with no noticeable hum or noise. I guess that people that are used to $3000 mics would disagree, but for me these mics give me perfect sound. They are also inspiring for someone like me, who has never mic'd the guitar before, but used the mid-tier pickups. I noticed I started playing and recording myself more since I got them.

It's also worth mentioning that I've recorded my 6yo daughter with these mics, and the sound was perfect (maybe also due to the lack of bass in her voice).

Weird things also happen with these mics. Once I turned gain a lot (but not to the max), and was able to hear and recognize some words from someone talking two backyards away, whom I couldn't hear by ear :)

Beautiful little mic and decent value.

This is a great little mic when you want something small, light and cheap. I also have a couple of Sennheiser MKH8040s which are slightly smaller but they are more than 10x the price so the Lewitt will be used for throwing into bags and for gigs.
The physical build quality is solid but it is unusual for all but the cheapest mic to feel flimsy these days.
Clip has a nice finger-adjustable hinge, but the actual clip could break easily if stepped on. 5/8" to 3/8" adapter included.
Small quibbles are that even though the pouch is great quality (padded) it's too big for this little mic and the wrong proportions. Is seems to have two compartments so I suppose this is the same one that comes with the matched pair set.
The mic is very sensitive so your preamp can relax. The sound is pretty bright! The graph shows a nearly 6 dB boost around 11 kHz and you can certainly hear this, sibilants sound harsh when using this for speech of singing. Low end seems slightly weaker, I suspect on account of this high-frequency boost. Plectrum noise and string squeaks leap out when used on acoustic guitar. At this same time, if you are after a mic with lots of shimmer and transient response, this could all be fine.
Off axis sound (90 degrees) is spectrally very similar to on-axis sound. Rear rejection is good so this is a proper cardioid and will be good in problem acoustics and for feedback rejection when facing the speaker.
The foam windshield is really thin and fairly ineffective. Consider getting a better third-party option if you intend on using this outdoors.
This mic is fine for most sources but for recording very quiet sounds -quiet/dynamic classical music or quiet Foley/soundscapes, the 20 dB A self noise can begin to present itself as a thick band of hiss. Comparing with my MKH8040 the reason for the price difference becomes apparent. The electronics of the mic also add a strong tone at 52 kHz and a weaker one at 88.15 kHz so these will not be good for sound design that requires dramatic pitching down when the lower of these tones may become audible as a steady whine. There's no point recording beyond 96 kHz with these.
Having said all this, this still is a very good value microphone and fine for the purposes for which I bought it.

Best pencil mic at that price

It's my favorite mic, works amazing for sound design, and even vocal recording when you EQ it a bit.

Best bang for the buck

I was in a hunt for a DIY drum rehearsal room recording setup and a friend recommended this overheads. Before them, I had a decent kit of drum mics but when I tried this I was really happy I listened to suggestion. Great sound whatever the positioning (XY, ORTF, recorderman...) and very solid build. for all of those in a hunt for a cheap mic kit, Iwould suggest spending a bit more and snatching this ones.
