Guild Jumbo Junior Bass Westerly

I have bought this bass because as a bass player I would like to have the option for acoustic gigs. Being a short scale bass guitar made me to close the deal, because I do not feel good playing long scale electric basses, so definitely no acoustic long scale bass.

I feel like I did a great choice buying this bass for several reasons. You get more than you pay for and the good parts are exceeding the bad ones.

First of all I like it because it is small and it is very comfortable to play it. The, the sound, definitely, the sound is bassy and deep, much more than I have even expected. I was afraid of being a failure buying it, that it would not have sustain, would not sound like a bass but like a toy but it is not the case. Period! It really sounds as a big guitar, no shame to use it on a real big gig as a main weapon.

The tuners are really reliable, the bass is rarely out of tune. The strings are floppy, but in a good way, for me, I like this way, more like an upper bass. The intonation is perfect and the strings spacing and guitar setup is a 10!

I am satisfied with the amplified sound of this guitar. It sounds more like an upper bass and I like this natural sound.

I like the way it looks, the flamed maple, and the chubby body.

As a cons, you may not like it due to the fact that it is not a high quality manufactured guitar. Also, Thomann says it has ebony fingerboard but it is rosewood, definitely, and I find same information on Guild website.

Overall, I recommend this bass for practice, acoustic gigs or as a main bass, especially if you like short scale basses.

Nachdem der erste Bass wegen kleinerer Mängel retour ging, bin ich nun voll glücklich mit dem kleinen Guild.
Ich bin Sänger und Gitarrist, und Gelegenheitsbassist - z.B. bei Sessions - und spiele dann auch mal gern (und mit gitarristischen Einlagen) tiefe Töne :)
- Konstruktion / Optik:
die niedliche Größe (etwa wie 7/8-Konzertgitarre) und Form gefällt mir super! schön klein und leicht, sieht sexy aus! Die kurze Mensur, zusammen mit den sich weich greifenden bronzeumwickelten Nylonsaiten, kommt mir sehr entgegen. Auch die rel. engen Saitenabstände. So kann ich schön flüssig spielen, und es geht auch ein singendes Vibrato, ähnlich Cello fast :); schöne Fichtendecke bei meinem Instrument
- Spielbarkeit: wie gesagt, für meine kleinen Hände super, tolles Halsprofil, Bünde optimal; gut oktavrein
- Sound: akustisch schön knurrig (Lautstärke geht vielleicht zusammen mit leise gespielten anderen akustischen Instrumenten im Wohnzimmer; Straßenmusik wird eher eine kleine Box erfordern);
elektrisch wunderbar - bassig eben, aber auch singend; kann mit Daumen gespielt fast kontrabassig klingen, oder mit leichtem Overdrive als richtiger Rockbass!
- Ausstattung: Volumen- und Klangregler reichen mir, Tuner brauche ich nicht unbedingt; Regler gut händelbar
- Verarbeitung: erster Bass ging wegen ungleichmäßigem Piezo-Einbau und deshalb ungleichmäßiger Saitenabnahme zurück, jetzt bestens; Verarbeitung recht gut, minimal überstehende Bundenden verrunde ich noch; schönes Matt-Finish (das ich noch schön speckig spielen werde :)
- Fazit: der gehört jetzt mit zu mir, schön klein und hübsch zum überallhin mitnehmen, vollwertiger Bass, auch virtuos spielbar, Daumen hoch!
