Helps to get the best out of your trigger and mesh head
I have bought one to test whether it helps to increase accuracy of my trigger on snare drum with mesh head on it. The result is fantastic! The foam ring lays exactly underneath the trigger head (I use 2box trigger set) so there is no unwanted vibration of the mesh in this point and there's no retriggering problems. You can adjust your triggering more precisely and realistic. Moreover it reduces the rebound very well! Playing on mesh head becomes more alike the playing on real head! And it's getting better to play grace notes. The only disadvantage is that it makes your drum a little bit louder than it was without it. The drum starts to sound like plastic bucket for paints (I detach the spring from the snare so it doesn't stand out from the rest of the drums in terms of loudness). So you need additional muffling inside the shell. I think this ring control is a very good professional solution for acoustic to electrionic drum conversion. I'm going to buy it for my toms. Definitely.

Fantastic way to control unruly toms!
I have a Pearl Export, perfectly good middle-of-the-road kit in my opinion, but the toms are all really resonant. I mean really, REALLY resonant. So much so, with the original skins on (which aren't brilliant anyway), that you avoid playing them. So in a rehearsal studio scenario you have a couple of options. You can either spend hours fiddling about with tape and tissue and cushioning and tuning. Or you can buy one of these, fit it and play. Took just a couple of minutes to fit, totally took my ringing toms in hand, they sound great now - a bit of tuning and I've got a perfectly passable sound for practising. Top notch 'lazy' solution for toms that resonate way too much.
