Extend the low end

Adding a subwoofer to a PA system isn't just about more bass – it removes low-frequency strain from the tops, allowing them to deliver greater clarity and headroom. The Mackie Thump18Sv4 takes over exactly that workload, combining a 1400W Class D amplifier with an 18" woofer to deliver substantial low-end weight and physical impact while extending response down to 28Hz (-10dB) – a full Hz deeper than the Thump15Sv4 – at output levels reaching 132dB SPL, making it the natural choice for larger rooms, outdoor events, and high-SPL applications. The enclosure features sturdy handles and an M20 pole mount for the Mackie SPM400 speaker pole (sold separately), allowing a full-range top to be mounted directly above for a compact, self-contained PA column. At 31.9kg, it remains manageable for transport, though clearly built with larger systems in mind.

Quick to integrate…

Feeding the signal into the Thump18Sv4's two stereo XLR inputs and routing the high-pass output to the tops is all that's needed to get the system running. Four selectable high-pass modes cover the most common Thump v4 pairings – Thump 12 (140Hz crossover), Thump 15 (110Hz), and Thump Go (150Hz) – with Variable mode allowing the crossover point to be set freely for other systems. Phase can be inverted at the touch of a button, and a variable level control runs from muted to +6dB for precise output matching. Stereo and mono summing modes support both single and dual subwoofer configurations, and the full-range XLR outputs allow additional subwoofers to be chained for larger systems. The front LED can be switched off for discreet installations.

...clean and separate

Getting subwoofer and tops to work as a single coherent system rather than two separate sources comes down largely to timing. All four high-pass modes include 1.4ms alignment delay, compensating for the physical distance between drivers and ensuring the low-end arrives in step with the mid and high frequencies – particularly when speaker placement is dictated by the room rather than ideal positioning. Combined with switchable phase, the system adapts quickly to different placements and changing acoustic conditions, whether the subwoofer is positioned centrally beneath the tops or offset to one side of the stage. The Variable crossover mode extends compatibility beyond the Thump v4 series, making the 18Sv4 a practical addition to mixed systems built around other full-range tops.

About Mackie

In 1988 Greg Mackie, already a successful co-founder of a pro audio company, founded Mackie Designs Inc. with the goal of producing affordable, high-quality mixers. The company's first official product, the LM-1602 line mixer, was initially produced within the four walls of his home. As sales figures were encouraging, its successor model CR-1604 soon followed - and in 1991 the company finally moved into its first proper production facility. The combination of reliable quality and low prices quickly brought the company enormous success, so that by 1995 Mackie had already sold 100,000 products. In 2003, the company was renamed LOUD Audio, LLC so that there is no longer any confusion between the Mackie brand and its former parent company of the same name.

Low end for any setup

The Thump18Sv4 is the natural choice for DJs, live bands, larger venues, rental providers, and touring applications – whether supporting Thump15v4 tops in a high-output full-range system, anchoring a mobile DJ rig, or serving as the dedicated low-end foundation of a fixed installation. The robust composite enclosure handles regular transport and touring, with integrated handles for easier loading and unloading. Multiple units can be combined via the full-range outputs for larger sub arrays, delivering the kind of sustained low-end output larger stages and outdoor events demand. As the flagship subwoofer in the Thump v4 series, the Thump18Sv4 pairs naturally with the Thump15v4 for the highest-output configuration the range offers.
