Best tool I bought
worshipdrummer, 09.12.2019
Finally a string winder. It feels awesome not to spend half an hour turning your hand and not losing your string until it tensions. Nicely built.

Does what it says on the tin!
Kevo, 21.06.2017
I must have owned at least 100 of these down through the years. I am forever losing them or having them nicked (Stolen) at gigs. So this time I went for a cheaper option. Good solid build and works well. Slips off the tuning key a few times but works well.

It gets the job done, it's VERY affordable, if you don't have a string winder, add this to your cart without hesitation.

Not a good fit for electric guitars.
Kevin_, 05.05.2018
There are two sizes on this string winder that can be used for the tuners, however, these are too big, or too small.

Using this tool on my Ibanez caused some scratches on the tuner, so I would definitely not recommend this for an electric guitar. Not only did it scratch the tuner it is used on, but also the tuners next to it because it is too thick.

The tool itself is sturdy, so for an acoustic guitar or a guitar with more spacing between the tuners, this should do the trick.

+ Material OK
- Scratches on tuner and nearby tuners.

Heriba 172 SW String Winder
19.02.2015
The "Heriba 172 SW String Winder BK" is a simple little string winder but it does everything it needs to do.
It had two slots in the head to cover the various sizes of tuner buttons, the small slot works with small vintage Kluson style button tuners like you find on Fender's and the Kluson tulip style tuners found on Gibson's, the larger slot will accommodate larger tuners right up to the monster Grover Rotomatics, (no it won't work with bass tuners !!!).
It's hardly an essential item but it does certainly speed up string changes, it also allows you to get a nice even wind on the strings which is sometimes difficult especially with the smaller vintage tuners, there is no start / stop while you reposition your fingers, just a constant wind which lets you concentrate on laying the string correctly.
It's very useful on a six string but its an absolute blessing when I restring my twelve string or my mandolin which has tiny little button tuners on a very cluttered headstock.
Another very useful feature, there is a small notch in the side of the head that allows it to be used as a "pin puller" for acoustic guitar bridge pins, it simply slips under the pin and gives you the leverage to loosen the most stubborn of bridge pins.
These are cheap enough that you can have one in every guitar case and I see no reason to pay more for any alternative designs, these are as good it gets.

Very very handy
Chas7, 12.08.2019
All the reviews above say it all. I have acoustic and electric guitars, too many maybe. Is that possible? This has saved me precious minutes. Handy to get out those stubborn bridge pins in acoustics and it fits all tuner sizes I’ve come across
Every guitarist should have one in their gig bag

There's not much more to say about this other than it's better quality than the cheaper colourful ones that are available and worth spending that little extra on

Robust and durable
apo-stolos, 01.10.2018
The two rotating parts are connected with a metal screw instead of plastic stuff, resulting higher durabilty even when used roughly.
It also has a very comfortable hand grip.

String winder could be enhanced with some more durable metals.

Works as intended.

Better than anything in transparent plastic for a few more pennies
04.01.2017
OK, it's a string winder - not that exciting and something you might use once in a blue moon, but it is a solid, professional feeling tool which is a big step up from the basic sort of transparent, hard plastic thing that you might otherwise buy or get free with a set of strings or a magazine.
The average plastic device will do the job but isn't that ergonomic and might be a bit sticky in the way it turns. This is a proper tool: the top fits well over the head of the tuner, it has a broad, tool-like handle and it turns smoothly around the centre. And it's not lemon yellow, like my old winder.
True, if I could have found my old winder I probably wouldn't have bought a new one, and if you only change one string at a time you wouldn't even bother with a winder, but if you don't have one already this is a much nicer thing to work with than the 'value' range for a few pennies more.

Best time-saver for guitar.
Har66zwgr, 25.05.2019
This is a bit sturdier then some of the competition.
Anyways it is a terrific time-saver when changin strings.
Also the winds, for me at least, look a lot neater.

Useful tool
12.03.2014
This is a cheap tool which I now keep in all of my guitar cases. Due to the transmission of the tuners my wrist usually hurts after changing strings. This useful thing greatly accelerates winding up new strings. It fits for small and big tuners and is made of durable plastic. I don?t expect it to break anytime soon! Great little helper.

Perfect for keeping in your case
28.02.2016
Get one today - it costs less than a beer :-)

I must be one of the last people in the world to get one of these. How on Earth I got by without one for all these years, I'll never know!

This one's as good as any in this price range, and the quality is just fine.

One of those must have pieces of gear that cost next to nothing
tomtomssi, 07.03.2018
A string winder is something you should always have. I've played the guitar for over 15 years and only now decided to spend a whopping 2.80e on this.

Makes changing strings much quicker and has the added effect of making me change strings they need to be changed. Not when they are already covered in rust and muck.

This one can sometimes slip off the tuning machines but its not really an issue.

TLDR: get one!

Essentially a life-hack for changing strings
esthern0len, 23.01.2018
This makes changing strings much faster and less tedious; all in all it provides for a much smoother experience. This is especially true if you need to change a string while performing.

The mechanism works smoothly and it does not at all feel flimsy or prone to breaking. You have to get used to holding it down slightly so that it doesn't fall off the nut while tuning. For a busker or anyone playing outdoors it will greatly reduce fidgeting around in the cold, etc.

The string winder is pretty much a no-brainer. Warmly recommended!

Great winder
18.04.2015
This string winder is great. It lies good in the hand and it fits a lot of tuningheads. The only bad thing about this string winder is that the nut inside of this seems a bit overtightened. Sometimes it seems a bit hard to drive around, but it works the most of the time.
