An affordable guitar complete with pickup

Black concert guitar Harley Benton CG200CE-BK, front view

For years, Harley Benton has been making good-quality instruments available to everyone, regardless of the size of their wallet. The Harley Benton CG200CE-BK is another example of this philosophy: A nylon-string acoustic guitar with a full-sized 4/4 body and a deep cutaway that makes it easy to play in the upper registers. In addition, the integrated pickup system with its four-band EQ means it can easily be hooked up to an amplifier. This concert guitar also looks great, thanks to its high-gloss black finish and cream-coloured binding on the font and back edges of the body as well as the fingerboard – as we all know, appearances are important too. This is an ideal acoustic guitar for beginners in particular, or for anyone who isn't willing or able invest too much money but still wants a good instrument.

Preamp, Harley Benton CG200CE-BK

Full sound and plenty of volume

The body of the Harley Benton CG200CE-BK is made from basswood and sealed with a black high-gloss lacquer finish. A nato neck with a maple fingerboard ensures that the six nylon strings can be played comfortably, and these are kept in tune by a set of sturdy machine heads on the black headstock. Concert guitars such as the CG200CE-BK are strung with nylon strings, which are more comfortable and easier to play than steel strings due to their lower tension, and therefore tend to make life easier for beginners. The nut width of 52mm is typical for a 4/4 acoustic guitar and as such well suited to adult players, as the fingers won't touch the neighbouring strings when fretting. However, children or players with smaller hands should look for a smaller (3/4) model. Finally, the integrated pickup means that the guitar's full, loud sound can also be enjoyed by a live audience.

Ideal for adult beginners

Because it is so affordable, the Harley Benton CG200CE-BK is bound to be popular with adult beginners who have to make do with a small budget, or simply don't want to invest too much money when they are just starting out. Either way, guitarists will get an instrument with the flexible functionality of an integrated pickup and the comfortable playability of nylon strings, all of which will help them start to enjoy their new hobby as smoothly as possible. In addition, the CG200CE-BK, with its jet-black high-gloss finish and cream-coloured binding on the edges of the body and neck, has an appealing appearance that immediately sets it apart from the optics of traditional instruments.

About Harley Benton

Since 1998, the Harley Benton brand has been catering for the needs of countless guitarists and bassists. In addition to an extensive range of stringed instruments, Thomann's house brand also offers a wide choice of amplifiers, speakers, effect pedals, and other accessories. In total, the range includes over 1,500 products. Built by established names in the industry, all Harley Benton products combine quality and reliability at attractive and affordable prices. The continuous expansion of the range ensures that Harley Benton always provides new, exciting, and innovative products that keep players perfectly in tune with the musical world, day after day.

From practising to performing

Whether players are practising in the privacy of their own home, taking guitar lessons, or jamming with friends in the park or at the next party, the Harley Benton CG200CE-BK is ready for anything while offering unbeatable value for money. Not so long ago, acoustic guitars in this low price range were still being referred to as "firewood": However, Harley Benton has once again proven that a limited budget doesn't mean missing out on any of an instrument's core functions. Of course, the CG200CE-BK can also serve as an inexpensive second guitar, one where everyday "dents and dings" don't matter so much. The built-in pickup makes it perfect for performing, too. The CG200CE-BK also features a cutaway, which extends the guitar's comfortable playability all the way to its upper registers. Of course, features like the pickup and the cutaway aren't mandatory – the otherwise largely identical sister model, the Harley Benton CG200-BK, does without either, and is even more affordable as a result.

A lot of fun for very little money
pengipete 25.02.2022
I can only review this with reference to the price - it's so cheap that it's impossible to say anything without adding "...for the money". With that said - it's a cracking little guitar that plays well enough and once the strings were stretched, has stayed fairly well in tune (for a nylon-strung guitar, that is). Construction is fine - actually, I can't find anything about it that is flawed. The neck is true, frets are absolutely fine and the tuners are smooth and up to the job. The pickup and preamp are better than I expected - it sounds like a classical guitar should (it doesn't get piezo zingy unless you set the treble stupidly high). I brought this because I didn't have a nylon strung and wanted one for occasional use when recording. Am really pleased with it - better than expected.

A
Poor finish
Armadalian 20.03.2021
I was expecting a shiny gloss finish, instead the surface of the body (Back and front) looks like it has been polished by a rough cloth causing surface scratches!. Small brow mark on the cream binding and binding not even all round the body. The strap button on the back of the guitar was loose and will not tighten. The instrument was very dusty. Im actually wondering if it was checked at Thomann when received from the factory - There was no checkers note or no label attached to the headsock! Plus points reasonably low action, no high frets/buzz, only wo slightly rough fret ends overall it does play well but very disappointed in the scratched dull surface.

Fantastic classical guitar!
Duell 14.11.2022
I have owned this guitar since late 2019, and it's held up fantastically.

First off I have to say I'm not an expert in classical guitars so I can't nitpick too much. To me however it sounds great, a nice full sound. Plugged in it can sound a bit thin however I find that most classical/acoustics I've played sound thinner when plugged in anyway.

The electrics are good although the display is a bit on the cheap side but I mean... It's a cheap guitar! It does the job and that's all I ask for.

The guitar looks fantastic, love the black finish and white binding. The binding came perfect on my guitar with no blemishes and all of the finish has held up nicely over the 3 years I've owned it.

Again I'm no classical expert but I bought this guitar to dabble in flamenco every now and then and it's been a fantastic tool for that, it's lovely to smash out a rumba on this thing.

Overall if you are after a budget electro-classical guitar I would 100% recommend this one. I've bought a number of Harley Bentons over the years (waiting for another to arrive right now) and I have no idea how they put out so many great guitars for the price!
