When I bought this, it was the only (affordable) game in town...
Spy da Man 13.07.2025
... and I needed a quick replacement for my beautiful, but outdated Focusrite Clarrett 8PreX, which stopped working with my computer/OS.

I needed 24 channels to marry up with my mixing console, and I didn't (still don't) have the money for a UFX , so my choices were limited.

With 8 analogue i/o and two sets of ADAT i/o, on paper the EVO16 ticked all the boxes. However, and this is my fault for not doing deeper research, in the flesh, this unit was not what I wanted it to be.

My main issue is its form factor; it has a rack mounting kit available, which you have to pay for separately, but as is, it's neither full nor half standard rack size, but somewhere in between, and at 10", is much deeper than most gear.

The odd width also leads to my second issue with it, which is that it has the first two combijack inputs on the front, with all of the other inputs and outputs (except the headphone outputs) on the back. If Audient had made the dimensions conform to the standard, they would have had enough space to put inputs 1 and 2 on the back with the rest. They could have duplicated them on the front, like other manufacturers do, and charged a little more without putting off many potential customers, IMHO.

Basically, what I wanted was the yet to exist at the time, ID48, with its more standard form factor, and bypassable mic preamps.

While some will appreciate the 'auto gain' technology the EVO16 provides, it isn't a feature I have much use for personally.

Overall, it performs well, and it got me out of a bind, but with hindsight I would not have bought it for my particular set up. However, it may yet come in handy if I start a mobile recording service, and for those who don't use traditional rack equipment, they may find that my issues are non-issues.

Works for simple applications
dovker 30.08.2023
I used this interface to record an album and it does it's job, but honestly the smart gain is not much use unless you mic up drums. And I constantly have this weird coil winding sound when on quiet sounds. Additionally, 48V phantom translates the electrical sounds to the recording somehow. Great features, mid sound. Build of the interface is OK, buttons seen like they could fall out, because they move around, yet the sides are made from metal.

G
Awesome and inexpensive interface for recording multichannel audio
Gaer 30.01.2024
I record drums with this interface, and the preamps sound awesome—very clean.
Having the ability to digitally control the gain levels is priceless.
The smart gain feature is really helpful; it just works.
I don't want to manually adjust levels on all 8 mics; that would be too boring.
What I usually do is let smart gain adjust the levels and then add 5 dB.
This way, I can achieve good recording levels without clipping the converters.
This is the best interface to get in this price range.
If you need 8 channels for recording your drums, just buy it.

Terrible QC
Trump2024 25.09.2023
Front panel was not fitted properly, so light came out of the right side of the unit. Sound quality was not good. Received zero help from Audient’s support. Would not buy any of their products again.

O
Massive upgrade
OBNam 28.09.2023
Having upgraded from the Presonus USB 96 I am
very pleased with the EVO 16.

The pre-amps are great and much cleaner than my previous unit. The 12db of attenuation is also very helpful for hotter pickups.

The output volume is louder and clearer - I really enjoy the multiple outputs along with the software mixer and cue-mix capabilities. Great for multiple speaker setups or monitors and a sub. The headphone pre-amps are also great.

It's a high-quality unit with all the features I need for a home studio - a great product for the price!

Solid analog 8 inputs
rugzbeats 23.10.2024
This interface is really easy to use. The built-in digital mixer that lets you save settings directly to the device is a great feature and makes things more convenient. The build quality is top-notch, and after mounting it in a rack (rack ears sold separately), it looks solid and professional. The auto-gain feature might be useful for multi-channel drum recording, but I didn’t find it essential for my needs: most of the time it is connected with MPC and other sound modules, plus turntable. Still, it’s good to have.

I've had this for 1,5 years now. I think it's still the best at this price point. And it's really useful that I can put my laptop on top of it. It save a lot of space on my desk.
