Modern sound in a classic package

The Blue Microphones Bluebird SL is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone that combines retro looks with a contemporary sound characterised by a detailed treble response with smooth mids and a punchy low end. Thanks to its cardioid polar pattern, this mic primarily picks up sound signals from in front of the diaphragm while suppressing sounds coming from the rear and sides. The Bluebird SL’s capsule is hand-built and equipped with a mylar diaphragm that is vapour coated with gold, and the mic also comes in an elegant wooden box. Those looking for the type of sound that this microphone delivers can therefore expect a modern piece of studio equipment with a good price-performance ratio.

An all-rounder with a broad frequency response

The Blue Microphones Bluebird SL has a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, so this microphone captures all of the important information within the normal range of human hearing. The main focus here is on producing crystal-clear highs and a punchy vocal sound that will find its place in virtually any mix. Its sensitivity of 28.5 mV/Pa and signal-to-noise ratio of 82.3 dB(A) make this microphone an all-rounder that will capably handle a wide range of recording situations. And its impedance of 50 ohms means it is compatible with the majority of the microphone preamps that are currently on the market.

For home recording and project studios

The Blue Microphones Bluebird SL can be operated with any microphone preamp that can supply 48-volt phantom power, which makes it a suitable choice for almost everyone. It comes with a 100 Hz high-pass filter with a slope of 12 dB per octave, which allows is to filter out the lower frequencies without compromising the range that is essential to vocal recordings. The Bluebird SL also comes complete with an elastic shock mount that eliminates the sound of footsteps and other low-frequency noise interference, making this mic perfect for home recording and small project studios that have not received expensive acoustic treatment.

About Blue Microphones

Blue Microphones is a US-based manufacturer whose eye-catching products never fail to make an instant impression. The company’s microphones, which include the stylish Yeti and the ultra-streamlined Snowball sound converter, are always quick to win over microphone afficionados. The company behind these creative ideas is Baltic Latvian Universal Electronics (“BLUE” for short), whose product range includes handheld, large-diaphragm, and small-diaphragm microphones in both USB and XLR formats and has recently been expanded to include headphones. The Bottle, a microphone with a selection of interchangeable capsules, is a high-end classic in the Blue Microphones range. Swiss firm Logitech acquired Blue Microphones in 2018. Since then, streaming bundles that include Blue Microphones mics and Logitech webcams have also been available.

Great in many situations

As a vocal mic, the Blue Microphones Bluebird SL provides a punchy, professional-quality sound, but it also performs equally well when used for instrument miking thanks to its pad function, which provides 20 dB of attenuation and thus makes it ideal for louder sources like pianos, drums, and brass instruments in addition to quiet instruments like acoustic guitars and similar. Whatever the instrument, however, you can be sure of a brilliantly clear tonal response with a well-defined upper range – in other words, a modern sound with a solid presence.

T
Great mic for it's price
Tiappa 02.10.2017
I love this mic and have used it a lot for acoustic guitars and vocals. In my opinion (and I'm really not a sound or recording expert, more of a composer/songwriter) it sounds great, especially for the price. But it's a somewhat specific sound: warm, without as much headroom and not as neutral as the more expensive Blue models like the dragonfly etc.

wasted money, do not buy

i needed 3 substitution before getting one that could work without buzzing or intereferences. the 4th eventually seemed to work for a while than all all the sudden the volume dropped and it was unmanageable to do any clear recordings. Thomann has been absolutely spot on to do all the possible and replacing the order 3 times, is the mic itself that is really garbage. never again Blue Micropohones. buy some trusted brands and never mind this new entries in the market.

Crystal, futuristic sounds. I found it's great to record female vocal in those modern electronic pop songs, or even certain hip-hop rapper.
Though it still can't beat those high-end microphone. Consider it's price, it's still a great microphone

Précis mais trop agressif sur les aigus par rapport à ma voix.
